Surname

The name Schneppenbach is derived from the Schneppenbach stream of the same name , which flows into the Westerbach in the local area. The place is called "Schnebbmich" in the Kahlgründer dialect .

history

The village had around 1150 inhabitants in 2009 and has seen an eventful history. It is a local resort in the Spessart . Around 1900 cigar production in factories and later in home work as well as bead embroidery were the only acquisitions in the predominantly agricultural area. Plagued by famine, there were many emigrations to Hungary and America in the 18th century . The homemade apple wine , a regional alcoholic drink from the Kahlgrund, which is still served in the restaurants, and the self-made “hand cheese with music”, which is actually considered the national dish of the Hessians , have their origins here in Bavaria . The area once belonged to Kurmainz and from 1814 to Bavaria.

The municipality of Schneppenbach belonged to the Alzenau district office , which was formed on July 1, 1862. On January 1, 1939, this became part of the Alzenau district in Lower Franconia (license plate ALZ ). With the dissolution of the Alzenau district in 1972, Schneppenbach was included in the newly formed Aschaffenburg district (license plate AB ).

Attractions

The Catholic parish church Herz Mariä was built from 1949 (laying of the foundation stone on June 19) to 1952 (inauguration on May 11 and 12).

In 2012 the church was completely renovated by the parish itself. The work began in May 2012 and included the construction of new staircases, the laying of new tiles, the painting of the entire building as well as an elaborately designed new altarpiece. The church has become barrier-free and an induction loop ensures good acoustic understanding even for those who wear hearing aids. The old pews were exchanged for new ones. A new ambo and a new altar were also purchased. The highlight and final conclusion of the renovation work was the inauguration of the new altar on December 15, 2012 by the auxiliary bishop . Helmut Bauer.

Club life

Sports club

The roots of the sports club SV Schneppenbach-Hofstädten 1945 eV go back to the 1930s. Football was already being played in the years before the Second World War. After the end of the war the club was founded and the club was initially called SV Schneppenbach 1945 eV After the game began on January 8, 1946, the club was officially entered in the club register in 1950. The association has been called SV Schneppenbach-Hofstädten 1945 eV since 2009 - which was decided unanimously in an extraordinary general meeting.

music Society

The Musikverein Schneppenbach 1976 eV was largely founded by Gerhart Rothenbücher. The official entry in the club register took place in 1980. Since it was not possible to rehearse in the restaurant "Ziegler" in the long run, the "Musicians' Home" was built in 1985, which has since been the club home of the Schneppenbach volunteer fire brigade and the Schneppenbach 1976 eV music club.

Business

Rothenbücher press shop

The Rothenbücher press is the largest press in the region and was founded in 1930 by the farmer Adolf Rothenbücher. Since the apple cider business brought in more profit than agriculture, Rothenbücher continued to develop the technology. His son Erich also continued to run the business and made sure that the company became known nationwide. In 2012, the third generation of Walter Rothenbücher sold the company to Christian Stenger from Hösbach . Christian Stenger was appointed managing director of the company "Kelterei Stenger" in 2018 by his father, who had previously owned the company in Hösbach. In this context , he merged the Schneppenbach company with the Hösbach company and since then has produced all products under the umbrella brand “KelterereiManufaktur Rothenbücher”.

Möbelzentrum-Spessart

The history of the company goes back to 1930, when Karl Börner founded a joinery . Later a furniture trade was opened under the name "Möbel-Börner". In 1959, Börner's son-in-law Clemens Schmidmeier took over the company. From 1973 the furniture store, which was now called "Möbel --kauf - Zentrum Spessart", had the largest number of shop windows in Europe. Since 1979 the company has been called "Möbelzentrum-Spessart". In 1995 the "Kitchen World Schmidmeier" opened. Today the company is the largest employer in town.
