The Schranne is 727  m above sea level. A. high mountain in the Hausruck and Kobernaußerwald train between Innviertel and Traunviertel in Upper Austria .

Location and landscape

The summit is located in the municipality of Waldzell (Ried im Innkreis district, north side of the mountain range), the highest point of which it represents. It lies in the ridge that runs south from the main ridge of the Hamberg mountain range (up to  722  m above sea level ) and separates the Hochecker Schwemmbachtal from the Fornacher Redltal , thus forming the watershed from Mattig and Inn to Vöckla , Ager and Traun . To the northwest of the Hamberg drains the Hundstal , to the southwest the Rabenbachtal , to the east the uppermost Redl, this is where the Redltal is located .

The ridge runs to the Kalteis  ( 734  m above sea level ), and there in a branch southwest towards Straßwalchen , and in a southward direction Vöcklatal , which is however previously surrounded by the Bruckwiesenbach to the Redl. The peak is hardly visible in the profile of the ridge.

The mountain is mostly counted as part of the Kobernaußerwald (western part of the train), partly also to the Hausruck (eastern part) - the demarcation is seen somewhere here in the room.

History and Development

The name is probably related to Schranne , a court, then a market place. The old Bavarian - Austrian border ran here until 1779 (today's municipal boundaries and here also the district border between Ried and Vöcklabruck still show the old borderline). The Mattig Valley was also Bavarian, and the Schwemmbach Valley belonged to the Friedburg judicial district , namely to the Hehnhart Forestry Court (as the Kobernaußerwald was previously called). Because this forest court was later added to the Ried district, the area belongs to a Ried community, although it is located south of the main ridge. The actual "Schranne", which is marked with a Marterl, is located 150 meters east of the summit. It was a cross-border trading post for forest dwellers. At times there was a real border station here, in the war times between Bavaria and Austria - again during the occupation of the Napoleonic Wars - smuggling was the main activity. The Franciscan cadastre of the 1830s gave Alte Schran as a hallway name on the ridge, and Neue Schran bei Marterl. The designations Schramer Höhe or Schram given in the third country survey of the 1870s are likely to be a contemporary error.

The mountain can be reached from all sides on numerous forest roads, through the valleys as well as on the ridges. A forest road also runs along the ridge itself. This makes the area a good hiking and mountain biking area. Every now and then there are also guided cultural hikes.
