Magic circle of Germany
The Magic Circle of Germany (MZvD) was founded in Hamburg in 1912 by the bank clerk and amateur magician Karl Schröder . As a national association of magicians , the association sees it as its task to cultivate and promote the art of magic .
The Union
The MZvD today has over 2800 members and is the umbrella organization of more than 80 local circles in Germany. The MZvD publishes the monthly association magazine magie - Die Kunst des Zauberns , which is available exclusively for members of the association with a circulation of 2,950 copies and maintains its own large specialist library that can be used by all members.
The association is a member of the international umbrella organization Fédération Internationale des Sociétés Magiques (FISM) , which was founded in 1948. Every three years the MZvD organizes the German Championship of Magic, at which the German champions are determined. The German Youth Championships are also held; since 2011 on an annual basis.
In addition, the association awards magician of the year and writer of the year honors .
On 4 March 2012 took the centenary of under the leadership of Julius Frack a magic show with the most ever counted participants in Tübingen Landestheater instead. 106 magicians from Germany, Austria and Switzerland (104 members of the MZvD) took part. The club and Julius Frack were awarded the Guinness World Record for "Most magicians in a magic show".
German Championships of Magic
The association has held the German Magic Art Championships every three years since 1975 .
The preliminary decisions for the championships take place one year in advance. In the year after the German championships, the FISM organizes the world championships of the international umbrella organization.

Magician of the Year / Writer of the Year
Since 1981/1982, outstanding magicians have been honored annually by the Magic Circle of Germany as Magician of the Year and Writer of the Year . In 2004, this honor was a magician of the century to Siegfried and Roy awarded.

Kalanag ring
Since 1983, the association has awarded the Kalanag ring as the highest honor , named after the magician Kalanag . It has only been awarded seven times so far. The winners so far have been:
- Kalanag-Ring 1: Horst Müller for his special services to the MZvD and the art of magic, awarded on October 8, 1983
- Kalanag-Ring 2: Fred van Thom for special services to the art of magic, awarded on May 9, 1986
- Kalanag-Ring 3: Bruno Hennig - JORO for special achievements in accordance with the Kalanagring regulations , awarded on May 25, 1990
- Kalanag rings 4 & 5: Siegfried & Roy for extraordinary achievements in the art of magic, awarded in April 1993
- Kalanag-Ring 6: Wolfgang Sommer in recognition of his special services and his many years of service for the benefit of the MZvD, awarded on January 6, 2005
- Kalanag-Ring 7: Armin Rieck for his many years of special service to the MZvD, awarded on October 6, 2012 on the occasion of the MZvD anniversary congress in Reinbek
