Ten teams took part in the 2018/19 season of the National League B (NLB). The teams play against each other three times. This means that 27 games are played. At the end of the season, the first place rises to the NLA, while the last two placed relegate to the first division .

The St. Gallen-FC Staad , of a season ago from a merger of the NLA relegated from 2016 ( FC St. Gallen ) and 2017 ( FC Staad had been formed), rose to the NLA at the end of the season after a season previously the sought-after ascent was missed. Last year's promoted FC Küssnacht and FC Therwil are relegated.
