Sebastian Meissner , (born September 27, 1969 in Częstochowa , Poland ) is a German electronica musician, music manager , journalist and radio producer.

Life

Sebastian Meissner studied pedagogy, sociology, psychology and American studies at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main and appeared for the first time with electronic music at the turn of the century 1999/2000 with Achim Szepanski , the founder of the techno label Force Inc. Music Works (FIM) on. In 1999 he made his debut with Ekkehard Ehlers under the joint project name Autopoieses with the album La Vie à Noir . His solo works have appeared under pseudonyms such as Bizz Circuits , Klimek, Random Inc and Random Industries on music labels such as Mille Plateaux , Kompakt , Raster-Noton , Sub Rosa and Anticipate Recordings . Meissner works with sound, music, photo and video material as well as participatory and site-specific elements.

For the label Mille Plateaux he was responsible for artists, publication concepts and his visual appearances between 2001 and 2004. He founded the Intifada Offspring network , which was looking for new perspectives in the Near and Middle East.

On September 6, 2004, the Extended Play (EP) Solo Swim , a joint work by The Notwist , Console and Klimek, was released. In the years 2008–2009 he was responsible for the conception of the score for the films Die Lichtung , Vietato soguare , Forbidden Childhood and Moon Lake .

He realized productions, performances and presentations for Forsythe Ballet , Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt , Rai Cinema, Sónar , Mutek , Unsound Festival , Lincoln Center for Performing Arts , Kunsthaus Graz , Offenes Kulturhaus Oberösterreich in Linz , Jewish cultural festival in Krakow , Bienal Internacional de Arte Contemporáneo de Seville and Hazira Performance Center Jerusalem.

Sebastian Meissner led seminars and workshops as a guest lecturer at the International School of New Media in Lübeck , at the DJ School of Contemporary Music in Tel Aviv , as part of the Barents Spectacle in Kirkenes and at the Musrara School of Art and Society in Jerusalem .

At the invitation of ORF musikprotokoll in Styrian autumn , Meissner designed the projects Lost Spaces and Not By Note together with the sociologist and activist Serhat Karakayali . Both projects artistically dealt with the topics of power, religion and identity using the example of the Middle East and the former Yugoslavia. The musicians Boikutt (Palestine), Dror Feiler (Sweden), Manja Ristić (Serbia) and Cynthia Zaven (Lebanon) also took part in Not By Note . The project received an Honorary Mention at the 2011 Prix ​​Ars Electronica in the Digital Musics and Sound Art category .
