Semyon Pavlovich Ivanov
Semyon Pavlovich Ivanov ( Russian Семён Павлович Иванов ; born August 31, jul. / 13. September 1907 greg. In Poretscheno, Smolensk , Russian Empire ; † 26. September 1993 in Moscow , Russia ) was a Soviet-Russian army general and hero of the Soviet Union .
Life
Semyon Pavlovich Ivanov was born in the village of Poretscheno in the Smolensk Governorate (today in the Smolenski rajon in the Smolensk Oblast ). In 1919 he moved to Smolensk . In 1926 Ivanov joined the Red Army as a volunteer . In 1929 he joined the WKP, which later became the CPSU . From 1936 he studied at the Frunze Military Academy. As commander of the 1st Rifle Corps of the 8th Army , he took part in the Winter War from 1939 to 1940.
Second World War
At the beginning of the Great Patriotic War , Lieutenant Colonel Ivanov was on the General Staff of the 13th Army ( Western Front , Bryansk Front ) and organized a. a. the defense in the battle of the cauldrons near Białystok and Minsk . From December 27, 1941 to July 22, 1942, Ivanov, promoted to colonel on January 13, 1942, was Chief of Staff of the 38th Army on the Southwest Front . Then he was Chief of Staff of the 1st Panzer Army of the Southwest Front in Kalatsch on Don until August 1942 . On October 14, 1942 he was promoted to major general and was Chief of Staff of the 1st Guard Army until December 9, 1942. In this capacity he was involved in the preparation of Operation Uranus on the Stalingrad Front . From December 10, 1942 to May 30, 1943 he was Chief of Staff of the Southwest Front and then until October 20, 1943 Chief of Staff of the Voronezh Front . From October 20, 1943 to November 11, 1943, Lieutenant General Ivanov was Chief of Staff of the 1st Ukrainian Front , after which he was Chief of Staff of the Transcaucasus Front . From June 2, 1944 to June 1945, he was Chief of Staff of the 3rd Ukrainian Front .
Pacific War
During the Pacific War , Ivanov, promoted to Colonel General on April 19, 1945 , was Chief of Staff of the Main Command of the Soviet Forces in the Far East. On September 8, 1945, he received the highest military honor Hero of the Soviet Union .
Cold War
From 1948 to June 1952 Ivanov was Chief of Staff of the Group of Soviet Armed Forces in Germany .
In 1962, Ivanov was involved in conducting Operation Anadyr , a secret Soviet military operation, as chief of the Defense Ministry's headquarters and deputy chief of staff . Around 40,000 Soviet soldiers and several medium-range nuclear missiles were stationed in Cuba during the course of the campaign.
From May 24, 1968 to February 1973, Ivanov , promoted to Army General on February 19, 1968, headed the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the USSR "KJ Voroshilov" .
Private
Ivanov was married to Wera Alexandrovna Ivanova (1912-1994). In 1990 he published the book "Headquarters of the Army, Headquarters of the Front". In 1992 he was released from active service and retired. He died on September 26, 1993 and was buried in the Novodevichy Cemetery in Moscow.
