Sessile Radoslawowa Karatantschewa ( Bulgarian Сесил Радославова Каратанчева , Russian Сесиль Радославовна Каратанчева sessile Radoslawowna Karatantschewa , English Sesil Karatantcheva * 8. August 1989 in Sofia ) is a Bulgarian tennis player . From 2009 to 2014 she played for Kazakhstan .

Career

Karatancheva has been on the professional tour since 2003. So far, she has won nine individual titles at ITF tournaments.

In 2004 she reached the third round at the WTA tournament in Indian Wells , in which she was defeated by Maria Sharapova in three sets. In June she won the French Open with the juniors when she defeated Mădălina Gojnea 6: 4 and 6: 0 in the final. At the WTA tournament in Québec , she made it to the quarterfinals. In the same year she appeared for the first time for the Bulgarian Fed Cup team , for which she played nine games in 2004 and 2005 and contributed six wins.

In early 2005, she was in the quarterfinals of the Gold Coast WTA tournament . At the French Open , she achieved her greatest success in a Grand Slam tournament in 2005 when she reached the quarter-finals . In December, the French newspaper L'Équipe reported that Karatancheva had tested positive for the doping agent nandrolone during the French Open . In January 2006, she was banned from the ITF for two years.

In 2008 she returned to the tour and achieved some success at the ITF level. However, there was a dispute with the Bulgarian Association when they did not compete in the Fed Cup , but wanted to play a tournament in La Quinta instead. In May 2008 she reached the main draw of a WTA tournament in Fez for the first time after her suspension.

In January 2009, Karatancheva became a Kazakh citizen; until the end of 2014 she played for the Kazakh Fed Cup team (17 wins, 12 losses).

After the Australian Open in 2010, she could not qualify for the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament for two years. It wasn't until the French Open in 2012 that she succeeded in doing this again; in the second round she had to admit defeat to Carla Suárez Navarro in three sets.
