action

The bachelor Nick is an avid collector of fan merchandise from the sport and offers them for sale in a small shop. He gets to know Suzanne, who works as an event manager across from his business, and feels drawn to her directly. Suzanne lives separated from her husband with her 13-year-old daughter Lindsey and their 7-year-old son Kevin. The two children are of the opinion that the only right man for their mother is their biological father, whom they have not seen for years. Therefore, they make life difficult for their mother's admirers in order to keep the chance open that their father will return to their mother.

Suzanne travels to Vancouver on business. At the last minute, she receives a call from the father of the two children at the airport, in which he informs her that due to an illness during Suzanne's business trip, he cannot look after their children as agreed. Suzanne no longer wants to go on her business trip, but Nick offers to take the children from Portland to Vancouver . His main aim is to do Suzanne a favor and win her heart. But the trip of the three goes differently than planned.

First, Nick has to flee the airport terminal because he is causing an alarm in the metal detector with the pocket knife that Kevin slipped him. So he decides to take the two children to Vancouver by train. However, since the children leave the train while he is loading the luggage, he has no choice but to take them to Vancouver in his new car.

Lindsey and Kevin do their best to make the trip a horror trip for Nick. From the start of the journey countless accidents, mishaps and breakdowns happen. Finally, while the car is being repaired, the two children take the train to visit their father Frank, who lives only a few kilometers away. There they have to find out that he is in excellent health and has only pretended to be ill so that he doesn't have to receive his two children as visitors. Lindsey and Kevin discover that their father is in a relationship again and that the new relationship has already resulted in a child. When Nick tells them that his father left him when he was a child, Lindsey and Kevin begin to trust Nick.

Finally, Nick manages to bring the children to Suzanne. Nick and Suzanne get together and receive the children's blessings for their mother's new relationship.

Reviews

Although the film was nominated for various awards, the reviews were devastating.

The lexicon of international films described the film as a "simple, off-the-peg comedy which, thoughtlessly and without any sense of educational undertones, stages the unrestrained destructiveness of children."

Jürgen Armbruster von Filmstarts was not very squeamish about his choice of words. He spoke of the "subterranean embarrassing script that can hardly be surpassed in nonsense". The main actor didn't do well either: "The last bit of humor is nipped in the bud by the gruesome main actor Ice Cube ( Barber Shop , Hart am Limit )."

Lars Lehmann, however, remained neutral: “There have been much funnier comedies, but also worse ones. Anyone who can be satisfied with an extremely simple and not really meaningful story and who also knows how to amuse themselves easily with malicious glee can. Are we already there? definitely gain something. "
