Smoke + Mirrors is the second studio album by the US band Imagine Dragons . It was released on February 13, 2015.
background
Was produced Smoke + Mirrors mainly by the band, as well as Alex da Kid . The band had previously recorded over 100 demos that were worked through for the album. Singer Dan Reynolds said about the album before it was released that it would be "completely different" and "more rock-heavy" than its predecessor Night Visions . The album's lead single , I Bet My Life , was released on October 27, 2014. Imagine Dragons appeared with the song at the 2014 American Music Awards and 2015 at The Ellen DeGeneres Show . The second pre-released single, Gold, followed in December 2014. The third single, Shots , was performed at the 2015 Grammy Awards .

criticism
Los Angeles Times' Mikael Wood rated the album two out of four stars. He drew comparisons with the popular electronic dance music and says that the band sounds "lame" at times, but the album conveys strong feelings. Jon Dolan from Rolling Stone magazine gave the album two out of five stars, criticized the wild mix of different genres and concluded that the band's music still had a long way to go. Neil McCormick of The Daily Telegraph praised the album and gave it a positive rating of four out of five stars.

The album was nominated for a People's Choice Award in the Favorite Album category.

Smoke + Mirrors went straight to number one in both the US and UK charts and was the band's first number one album in both countries. Top ten placements were achieved in each of the DA-CH countries, as well as in many other countries such as Australia , France , New Zealand and Spain . In most countries, however, the album was represented in the charts for a significantly shorter time than Night Visions .

The first single, I Bet My Life, was the most successful single on the Billboard Hot 100 , reaching number 28 and a platinum record. Otherwise, Monster and Shots entered the US single charts and reached positions 78 and 75. In the United Kingdom, the two titles and Warriors , included on the deluxe edition, also reached the charts and all three singles were awarded a silver record . In the German-speaking area, these three singles also had short chart stays, the most successful being Shots with place 60 and 14 weeks in the German charts . In Sweden , the song stayed in the charts for 40 weeks. A remix by the DJ duo Broiler increased the success of Shots , especially in Norway , where this version reached number three in the charts.
