Solheim Cup 2009

The 11th Solheim Cup games were played from August 21 to 23, 2009 at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois , west of Chicago . The three-day competition, which is held every two years, is the largest professional golf tournament in women's golf, in which the twelve best female golfers from the USA and Europe compete against each other. Up to 90,000 fans watched the games. The USA won the Cup for the third time in a row with 16 - 12. Up to the last day it was 8 to 8, but the USA won 8 of the 12 individual games and was able to keep the Solheim Cup.

Teams

The teams from the USA and Europe were selected using different methods.

For the USA team you qualified by getting points for victories and top 20 placements on the LPGA Tour over a period of two years. Points were counted from the 2007 State Farm Classic to the 2009 Women's British Open . The 10 players with the most points were automatically nominated for the USA team. Two additional players were selected by the captain Beth Daniel after the Women's British Open on August 2nd, 2009.

For Team Europe, the best 5 players in the LET Solheim Cup ranking, as well as the four best European LET members in the Rolex world rankings, who are not already qualified via the LET Solheim Cup ranking, were selected. In addition, the captain nominated three more players. Points for the LET Solheim Cup ranking were obtained through top 10 placements at official LET events.
