Solheim Cup 2011
The 2011 Solheim Cup was held from September 23-25, 2011 at Killeen Castle, County Meath , Ireland . The three-day competition, which is held every two years, is the largest professional golf tournament in women's golf, in which the 12 best women golfers from the USA and Europe compete against each other. The USA had won the last three competitions in a row up to 2011, the last victory of the Europeans in Sweden in 2003 was eight years ago. After the first two team match days it was 8 to 8 ties. The Europeans won the singles on Sunday 7-5 and were able to win with 15-13. It was the fourth European victory all won on home soil.

A total of 28 matches were played as match play , which were distributed over the individual days as follows:
- Day 1 (Friday): Four foursomes in the morning and four fourballs in the afternoon.
- Day 2 (Saturday): Four foursomes in the morning and four fourballs in the afternoon.
- Day 3 (Sunday): Twelve singles
One point was awarded for a match won. For a shared match, each team received half a point. Europe needed 14 points to defend the Solheim Cup. The USA needed 14½ points to win the Solheim Cup.
