Solheim Cup 2007

The Solheim Cup 2007 was the tenth edition of the Solheim Cup and was held from September 14th to 16th at Halmstad Golfklubb in Halmstad, Sweden. It was held as a three-day tournament for the 12 best women golfers from the United States and Europe . The US team won the cup 16:12 and thus defended the Solheim Cup.

A total of 28 matches were played as match play , which were distributed over the individual days as follows:

Day 1 (Friday): four foursomes in the morning and four fourballs in the afternoon
Day 2 (Saturday): four foursomes in the morning and four fourballs in the afternoon
Day 3 (Sunday): twelve singles

One point was awarded for a match won. For a shared match, each team received half a point. Europe needed 14 points to win the Solheim Cup. The USA needed 14.5 points to defend the Solheim Cup.

Teams

The teams of the United States and Europe were selected by various methods.

For Team Europe, the five best players in the LET Solheim Cup rankings and the four best European LET players in the Rolex world rankings who were not already qualified via the LET Solheim Cup ranking were selected. In addition, the captain nominated three more players. Points for the LET Solheim Cup ranking could be obtained through top 10 placements at official LET events.

You qualified for the US team by collecting points for victories and top 20 placements on the LPGA Tour over a period of two years. The points were counted from the State Farm Classic 2005 to the Safeway Classic 2007. The ten players with the most points were automatically nominated for the United States team. Two additional players were selected by the captain Betsy King after the Safeway Classic on August 26, 2007.
