The Speedy is a high-speed ferry that was formerly used by the Warrings shipping company on the route from Bremen and Bremerhaven to Helgoland .

history

The Speedy when unloading in Bremerhaven

The ship was built in 2000 under the hull number 191 at WaveMaster International in Henderson, Australia . The Speedy was designed as a monohull ship. The construction costs amounted to around 11 million DM .

The Speedy was shipped as deck cargo on board the Ditzum to Bremerhaven in 2000 , where it arrived on August 9th. It was baptized on August 11, 2000 at the Schlachte in Bremen.

The ship was used by the shipping company Warrings from Bremen (Martinianleger) and Bremerhaven (Seebäderkaje) to Helgoland. In Helgoland, passengers did not have to disembark, which is customary for the seaside resort ships , since the Speedy was allowed to dock directly in the port. At times, however, trips to Wangerooge or Sylt were also offered, or trips from Bremen- Vegesack instead of the downtown Martin pier.

Technical specifications

The ship of two powered four-stroke - diesel engines from Caterpillar (: 3516B type), each with 2,009  kW power , which gearbox on two propellers act. The ship can reach a speed of up to 30  knots . Two Caterpillar diesel generator sets (type: 3304BT) with 106 kVA apparent power each  are available for power generation. The range of the ship is up to 200  nautical miles .

The height of the ship above the waterline is a maximum of six meters (without the hydraulically folding mast ). This was necessary so that the ship could cross the bridges over the Weser in Bremen.

Whereabouts of the ship

In April 2004 the ship was sold to the Italian company Alilauro, which uses it as Anna Maria Lauro under the Italian flag in the ferry service from Naples to the islands off the Gulf of Naples .

After the sale, the ship was shipped from Bremerhaven to Naples on board the Trina heavy lift of the shipping company Schiffahrtkontor Altes Land .
