location

The Kahlenberg rises in the northern part of the Rothaargebirge in the Hochsauerland . Most of it with the summit is in the urban area of Olsberg , 2.5 km south-south-west of Wiemeringhausen and 1.5 km south-east of Brunskappel , to which it largely belongs. In the neighboring city of Winterberg there is Niedersfeld , 2.5 km southeast, and Siedlinghausen , 2.5 km southwest. The upper reaches of the Ruhr flow past the mountain in the east and the negroes in the west, which flow into the Ruhr about 7 km (each as the crow flies ) north of the mountain.

Side knolls and neighboring mountains

About 400 m north-east of the mountain summit, the Sperrenberg ( 725.5  m ) connected to it via a 721  m high mountain saddle joins as a side knoll of the Kahlenberg . From there the landscape leads over a 516.2  m high saddle to Bornstein ( 533.4  m ) 1.6 km north-northwest . In addition, viewed from the Kahlenberg summit , it leads over a 676.8  m high saddle to a nameless mountain, according to the German base map, 710.7  m ( ) high, which is 1.2 km south-southeast in the Winterberg city area.

The neighboring mountains and elevations of the wooded Kahlenberg beyond the Ruhr Valley include Schurenstein ( 650  m ) and Beieck ( 695  m ) in the northeast, Öhrenstein ( 792.1  m ) and Auf dem Sternrodt ( 789.4  m ) in the east and Rimberg ( 764 m ) in the east , 5  m ) in the southeast. The southern neighbor is the Hohe Hagen ( 729  m ). Beyond the Negertal are the Käppelchen ( Köppelchen ; 563.2  m ) and the Krähenstein ( 577  m ) in the southwest, Lüttenberge ( 597.2  m ) in the west and Braberg ( 675.6  m ) in the northwest.
