The Sprohne is a nature reserve in the town of Nienburg (Saale) in the Salzlandkreis in Saxony-Anhalt .

The nature reserve with the registration number NSG 0081 is 15.34  hectares . It is part of the FFH area "Nienburger lowland forest mosaic" and the conservation area surrounded "Saale". The area has been under protection since May 1, 1961 (date of regulation: March 30, 1961) and was expanded in 1983. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the Salzlandkreis.

The nature reserve is located northeast of Nienburg (Saale) on the right bank of the Saale in the Lower Saale Valley Nature Park . It protects a natural and species-rich hardwood alluvial forest in the floodplain area of ​​the Saale. The tree layer of the richly structured elm-ash riparian forest is characterized by pedunculate oak and ash , while the elm stands are severely affected by the dying of the elm . Only the white elm can still be found frequently. Gray willows grow on the silting old arms of the Saale. In addition, poplar forests and several unused orchards are included in the nature reserve.

The herb layer of the alluvial forest is characterized by spring bloomers such as hollow larkspur , yellow anemone and golden buttercup . Tall perennials and tall grasses dominate later, including the hairy teasel . Along the Saale and sinks and Altarmresten settle moist Hochstaudenfluren with Real angelica and banks perennials hallway and Slim harrow - and reed canary grass rieden. Occasionally, reed or hedgehog ears can also be found.

The floodplain of the Saale is dammed to the east. Here are oat reported at meadow cranesbill , Genuine cleavers and Wiesensilau to find. In the north there is a former clay pit with reed beds.

The nature reserve is the habitat of a species-rich avifauna , including goshawks , red and black kites , common ravens , small woodpeckers and puffy titans . There is also a stable occurrence of the Elbe beaver here .
