In 1515 and 1571 construction work on the church was announced. In 1680 Jakob Töpfer designed a new altar . Major renovations were carried out between 1701 and 1721 under Christian Wilhelm I. In 1727 the royal box was built. In 1793 the church was rebuilt, which was again extensively renovated from 1870 to 1880. In 1960 and 1970 the interior was repainted. The church received a new bell in 1966. Restoration has been carried out since 1992. The weather vane was provided by the new Beschieferung reconstruction of the church roof 1,993th

Building description

The late Gothic hall church is in an elevated position east of the palace complex . The nave ends on three sides in the east. The three-story church tower stands on a high base at the south-west corner . It has a hipped roof with flanking corner turrets. There is an annex for the sacristy on the south side . A princely hereditary burial was laid out in it around 1642 . The interior is largely shaped by the baroque redesign. The nave was covered with a painted wooden barrel vault in 1704 . The ceiling painting shows the Holy Trinity . The three-sided two-story galleries from the Renaissance period stand on stands . The patron's box with Corinthian pilasters has been located on the southern gallery since 1727 . The fields of the parapets are carved ornamentally. The high porch of the tower has a groin vault .

Furnishing

The pulpit altar from 1720/21 comes from the workshop of the Sondershäuser sculptor Heinrich Christoph Meil. Its architectural structure consists of Corinthian pilasters and volutes set with acanthus . Only the monogram on the pulpit's basket testifies to the original self-portrayal of the Schwarzburg-Sondershausen Princely House ; the former sounding cover with the princely hat was lost. The pulpit is flanked by carved figures of Salvator and Moses. The baptismal font dates from 1701. In the tower vestibule there is an epitaph from 1565–69 for the donors Hans and Magdalena von Ebeleben, in 1899 it was revised. The organ with 17 registers , divided into 2 manuals and pedal , was built by Adam Eifert in 1893 . It was rebuilt in 1934 by Wilhelm Sauer .
