The Catholic branch church St. Johann Baptist in Walkerszell (Markt Pleinfeld ) is a branch of the parish church St. Veit in the deanery Weißenburg-Wemding . Around the church, the courtyards of the place that was once subordinate to the commander Ellingen are clustered . Narrowed by the houses, several steps lead to the church and the cemetery . The building is registered under the monument number D-5-77-161-136 as an architectural monument in the Bavarian monument list. The church was built in 1720 instead of a previous church that had burned down, probably according to the plans of the Ellingen builder Franz Keller of the Teutonic Order .

The geostete, with a gable roof covered hall church wearing a hexagonal roof skylights . In the west the portal is in the area of ​​a risalite that ends in a triangular gable . The high altar dates from 1640, while the side altars and pulpit were created in 1668. Inside, the bandwork , which draws on grid fields, hangers and tulip rods in the ornaments and motifs , is impressive. In the stucco of the ceiling which is the depiction of Landkomturs Karl Heinrich von Hornstein linked to Ellingen.

The following commemorative inscription is attached to the gallery of the organ : “After the damage of the Second World War, completely renovated inside and out (also newly covered and for the first time provided with a water protection system on the roof and facade ), new flooring , stalls and bell procured, under Pastor Salomon , St. Veit. Completed in 1965/66. "
