The Roman Catholic branch church of St. John the Baptist in Niedersüßbach , a district of Obersüßbach in the Lower Bavarian district of Landshut , is an essentially Romanesque church building that dates back to the High Middle Ages . In the 15th century a tower and a polygonal choir were built in the late Gothic style; During the baroque period , the nave also underwent some structural changes.

description

The small, east-facing hall structure comprises a nave with two window axes and a choir room, consisting of a yoke and a five-eighth section , which are united under a shared saddle roof . While the nave is spanned inside by a flat ceiling , the presbytery is vaulted in a late Gothic style . An open porch is attached to the otherwise undivided west facade , which protects the church portal from the weather.

The four-storey tower with a square floor plan is designed as a so-called choir flank tower, which is attached to the south of the altar house and jumps slightly into this structure. The sacristy is located on the first floor of the tower . The two middle tower floors are structured by pointed arches that contain narrow, high-angle slits of light. The top floor of the tower, framed by cornices , contains the belfry and shows a pointed arched sound opening on each side , two on the south side. On this floor there are also the remains of a clockwork ; however, the associated tower clock was removed around 1920 without replacement. The top of the tower is formed by an eight-sided pointed helmet over four triangular gables .
