St Johannis in Bramscher district Engter is the parish church of the parish of St. John Engter that the Bramsche Church District of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hanover belongs.

Building history and description

After the founding of the Engter parish in 1229 as a branch of St. Martin (Bramsche) , the church dedicated to the Evangelist Johannes was built in the 13th century . It was originally a late Romanesque hall church with two square nave yokes , a choir that was just closed and a west tower made of quarry stone .

The pointed arched ribbed vault in the nave shows the transition style between Romanesque and Gothic , the choir is probably equipped with an older groin vault . The windows in the tower are round-arched , in the nave they are bluntly pointed. There is a round arched portal in the north wall of the western yoke .

In 1821/1822 the church was extended to the north by a rectangular, transept-like extension to the eastern nave yoke. In 1913 a similar extension was made to the south, which means that the floor plan is now cross-shaped.

Furnishing

The oldest piece in the church is the triumphal cross from the late 13th century. The pentagonal tombstone with the portrait of the deceased clergyman ( plebanus ) dates from 1340 . The altar , pulpit and western gallery date from the 17th century, the wooden altar shows scenes of the Last Supper . The baptismal font was made in 1784, a brass - chandeliers also dates from the 18th century. Outside the church are tombstones of the Bar family from the 17th and 18th centuries.

organ

The organ was built in 1973 by the organ builder Alfred Führer . The instrument has 18 stops on two manuals and a pedal . The playing and stop actions are mechanical.
