The St. Josef Church is a Roman Catholic parish church in Fischbach-Camphausen , a district of the Saarland community Quiigart . It bears the patronage of St. Joseph . In the list of monuments of the Saarland, the church is a single monument listed.

history

In the years before 1900, the then parish vicar Wilhelm Greff tried to get free building land to build a church and a rectory in Fischbach. The building land that he was given was sufficient for the construction of a rectory, but not for the construction of a church. This is how the rectory, which was completed on August 1, 1900, was built. Under parish vicar Johannes Hess, who succeeded Greff, who was recalled in 1905, after lengthy negotiations a sufficiently large plot of land was finally obtained for a church. The plot of land was land that belonged to the Camphausen mine and that was exchanged for land from the parish of Quiigart. The license for the exchange of land was given by the Royal Mining Directorate Saarbrücken in November 1908. The license for the construction of the church in Fischbach, which at that time belonged to the Prussian Rhine Province , was granted on March 1, 1911 by the responsible Prussian government in Berlin .

The architect Moritz Gombert ( Saarbrücken ) was responsible for the plans for the church building, which has now been realized . The foundation stone was laid in June 1911, and the first service could take place in the newly built church on August 25, 1912 . The construction costs for the church building amounted to 143,000 marks . On August 7, 1916, the then Trier Auxiliary Bishop Antonius Mönch undertook the solemn consecration of the church.

In 1923 the church was painted, a year later stations of the cross and a bell were purchased . The colorful church windows , which were installed in 1925/26, had to be partially replaced after the Second World War due to destruction caused by a bombing. In the summer of 1954 the church underwent an interior renovation, which also included new wall paintings . From the year 1977 a new extensive interior renovation took place, during which the area of the sanctuary of reconstruction and redevelopment measures was affected. After completion of the work, Auxiliary Bishop Alfred Kleinermeilert consecrated the altar in the rebuilt and newly designed chancel on May 11, 1980. In 2000, the interior was renovated again, during which old pictures were rediscovered and exposed. In 2004, the church roof and outer facade were completely renovated.

Furnishing

The church's furnishings include wall paintings by the church painter Alfred Gottwald ( Bonn ), which were created in the 1950s. The paintings are above the high altar and the two side altars. Other furnishings include figures of Saints Barbara , Margaretha , Clare and Thomas Aquinas , as well as the Old Testament figures Melchizedech , Noah , Aaron and Elias . The rose windows on the front of the main and transepts are also worth mentioning .

The church's current organ was put into service on December 13, 1981. The previous instrument was commissioned in July 1926.

The church bell consists of four bells. The fourth bell was delivered in 2001 by the Mabilon bell foundry in Saarburg .
