The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Peter and Paul is a Romanesque hall church in Ebrantshausen , a district of Mainburg in the Lower Bavarian district of Kelheim, which was converted into a hall church in the late Gothic period . It belongs to the parish of Mariä Lichtmess Lindkirchen in the diocese of Regensburg .

history

The originally Romanesque choir tower church was enlarged in the late Gothic period and converted into a two-aisled church by adding the Heinrichskapelle to the north . A local pilgrimage to Heinrich von Ebrantshausen , the blessed Count of Abensberg- Riedenburg , required this expansion. According to a legend , this count is said to have settled as a hermit near Ebrantshausen after a pilgrimage to Jerusalem . According to tradition, he was buried there and a chapel was built over his grave.

Exterior

Exterior view from the west

The church forms a striking assembly of exposed brick masonry with two saddle roofs , a sacristy protruding to the east like a choir and a high tower with a saddle roof in which the originally Romanesque choir tower has risen. The Romanesque ground floor shows an unusual structure with large, gable-like closed blind fields with a central pilaster and an arched frieze under the sloping gable . The upper floor with wide rectangular panels, which are finished with an arched frieze, also belongs to the same style period. The late Gothic upper tower floors are structured by wide pointed arches, the steep gables with slender keel arches and pinnacle-like attachments.

The Romanesque inventory also includes parts of the east and south walls of the core building, some of which have been preserved with a German ribbon and arched friezes. The late Gothic extension to the west and north can also be seen in the masonry. The late Gothic Heinrichskapelle with a sloping northeast corner connects to the north. It is structured by thin angular pilaster strips and a circumferential roof frieze,

To the east, at the junction of the two naves next to the tower, the sacristy with a polygonal east end is built, which additionally enlivens the east view. In contrast, the different sized gable fronts on the west side are simple. The roof friezes have been repainted.

Interior

The two parts of the room with different widths and heights were connected by four pointed arches to form a two-aisled room. The strong rectangular pillars are provided with chamfers at the corners. The two naves were vaulted with late Gothic rib vaults of various shapes, which are supported on pointed consoles on the walls and pillars. The southern room has just been closed in the east and the former choir has been separated by a wall since the Baroque period . In the northern room, a three-sided choir closure is indicated by the sloping northeast corner and is taken up by the vaulted figures. The extension next to the tower is provided with a five-eighth closure and must have been built earlier than the Heinrichskapelle after the masonry. The vault ribs inside were later chipped off.

Furnishing

The late neo-Gothic altars were decorated with paintings by Georg Halter from the years after 1902. On the altar of the Heinrichskapelle is a carved figure of the seated Heinrich von Ebrantshausen, which was created around 1530 by an Ingolstadt carver based on a figure (presumably of St. Jacob ) by Hans Leinberger that is now in the Bavarian National Museum . The figure is disfigured by a later version .

On the side altar of the south chapel there are two wooden candlestick angels from around 1530. A Vespers image from the second quarter of the 16th century is placed on the eastern dividing pillar . Above the entrance to the sacristy there is a reliquary bust of Blessed Heinrich, which was probably made in 1689 when his bones were reburied. A Roman macaw is now used as a holy water font.
