The Church of St. Pirminius is a Catholic parish church in Hornbach , Südwestpfalz district , Rhineland-Palatinate . The church patron is St. Pirminius . The church is listed in the register of cultural monuments in the district of Südwestpfalz.
history
The foundation stone for today's parish of St. Pirminius was the foundation of the Hornbach monastery by St. Pirminius in 742. Around the year 1000, the monastery built the Fabianstift as a church for the parish . In the course of the Reformation in 1557 the monastery and parish were abolished. In 1681 a Catholic parish was allowed again, but it was not until the end of the 19th century that the construction of a new Catholic church in Hornbach could begin. Until the construction of St. Pirminius , today's town hall, originally built as a market hall and a simultaneous church for Reformed and Catholics until 1786 , served as a Catholic parish church until 1931.
In 1899, pastor L. Lambert founded a church building association with the aim of building a pilgrimage church on the mountain south of the city. In 1911 the rectory was built under Pastor S. Schuler. In 1926 construction began on the church building, the foundation stone was laid in 1927. The plans came from the architect Albert Boßlet ( Würzburg ). On August 3, 1930, the Speyer bishop Ludwig Sebastian inaugurated the church.
Architecture and equipment
The church building is a two-aisled , romanized quarry stone building . The rectory south of it is a villa-like plastered building in the style of reform architecture .
Of the attractive features of the church include the stained glass windows , which in the choir scenes of Emmaus credit history, the main ship stations from the life of St. Pirmin and in the aisle representations of the four cardinal virtues show.
Furthermore, numerous figures of saints are set up in the church , u. a. a figure of Mary from the Baroque period on the Marien Altar . Under the Pirminius figure, to the right of the chancel, there is a niche with a reliquary with a relic of St. Pirminius. In front of the staircase to the gallery is a pieta , in the baptistery there is a baptismal font, presumably from the 12th century, and a crucifix from 1931, which was originally placed above the high altar . In the chancel there is an altar cross as well as the ambo , tabernacle and the altar panel created in the 1980s . The panels of the former communion bench , which separated the chancel and nave , are in the gallery parapet . A way of the cross from the 1960s is also part of the furnishings.
The church organ , which has 10 stops , two manuals and a pedal , was purchased second-hand at the end of the 1960s. The instrument is set up on the gallery. At the gaming table a sign the company is Hugo Mayer Orgelbau attached.
Bells
The church received the first ring, consisting of three bells , in 1932. They were cast in Gescher by the company Petit & Gebr. Edelbrock of the master Werner Hüesker.

During the Second World War , the two largest bells were confiscated and melted down for war purposes, only the Marienbell remained in the tower. In 1956, Petit & Gebr. Edelbrock also purchased an additional new bell from master Hans Hüesker. In 1998, two more bells were added from the Karlsruhe bell and art foundry and in 2005 another one from the Maria Laach foundry, which brother Michael Reuter OSB was able to cast from financial means. Today's ringing consists of five bells, which together with the five bells of the Protestant monastery church form a coordinated ringing.
