St. Spiritus (Badra)
The parish church of St. Spiritus , Alcohol Sanctus Church or German to the Holy Spirit is north above the main street of Badra , in the municipality of Kyffhäuserland in Thuringia Kyffhäuserkreis . The church belongs to the parish area Sondershausen III in the parish of Bad Frankenhausen Sondershausen the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .
history
The chapel was elevated to a parish church as early as 1318. The church patronage was initially held by the Walkenried monastery . Later it passed to the rulership of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen . The hall church with the choir tower was enlarged to the east in 1590 and received a semicircular apse . The extension is visible on the former roof layers on the tower. The church suffered considerable damage in the Thirty Years War . In 1718 work began on building a new nave , which was consecrated in 1721.
In 1803 the pulpit and the church tower were repaired . Further renovations were carried out in 1837 . In 1879 repairs were made to the roof , bell cage and ceiling . In 1910 the church roof was re-covered. In 1921 there was a major renovation. In 1938 the interior of the church was repainted. The whitewashed circular painting above the choir was exposed. In 1955 the tower was re-covered. In 1969 the sacristy was torn down. In 1970 the sanctuary was renovated. In 1986 the tower was covered with slate . The last major renovation of the church took place in 1999.
From 2004 to 2008 the gallery paintings were restored.
Building description
The parish church, built in 1721, is a baroque hall church with 5 bays , which is covered with a hipped roof. The square church tower is on the south side. It has a pyramid roof topped with a lantern . The two lower floors of the tower are from the previous building. At the sides, staircases lead to the two-storey, three-sided galleries . The interior is covered with a wooden barrel .
Furnishing
On the fields of the balustrade of the galleries there are canvas paintings with Old and New Testament themes. The pulpit altar , dated 1719, has turned Corinthian columns and flat carvings.
The organ with 20 registers , divided into 2 manuals and pedal , was built by Julius Strobel in 1883 .
