The Evangelical Lutheran village church of St. Trinitatis is in Illeben , a district of the town of Bad Langensalza in the Unstrut-Hainich district in Thuringia . The parish Illeben belongs to the parish area Gräfentonna in the Nord of the church district Gotha of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

The current hall church was built between 1734 and 1739. In essence, however, it is older and was later rebuilt several times. The choir has a three-sided end and is aligned with the nave in the north, but is drawn in in the south. The church tower is in the west. The portals to the west and south have dentil and Kymatien and to designate the year 1555. The interior was in 1855 with a wooden barrel vault spans, which in tapes is divided, with baroque paintings in oval medallions and stucco are provided. The choir is painted with ornaments . On the parapets of the galleries there are remains of Old and New Testament paintings from the 18th century, some of which have been revised. The wall painting in the choir is from the 16th / 17th centuries. Century. The jambs of the windows have as ornaments Putten and virtues , on the south wall, they show the resurrection of Jesus Christ . The pulpit has a relief with figures of Jesus Christ and the evangelists . The baptismal font is from the 17th, the crucifix from the 18th century. In the choir there are epitaphs of two clergymen in official costume from 1501 and 1510.

The patron Christian von Sachsen-Weißenfels of the church is noted in the cartouche above the portal in the east . The pointed arch portal on the west side provides access to the restored tombs . The interior is equipped with two-storey wooden galleries . The church furnishings also include a pulpit altar from 1734, as well as a relief with a portrait of Mary from the Marienkirche.

Today's organ with 15 stops , divided into two manuals and a pedal , in a neo-Romanesque prospectus , was built by Gustav Koch in 1856. It replaced an organ made by Johann Christoph Thielemann in 1716.

Extensive renovation and restoration work took place from 2008 to 2009.
