The Flyeralarm Arena , originally and in parlance also Stadion am Dallenberg (also Dallenbergstadion , Dalle or Kickers-Stadion ), is a football stadium in the Lower Franconian city of Würzburg , Bavaria . The stadium is the club's own venue for the Würzburger Kickers , who currently play in the 2nd Bundesliga . 10,006 visitors are currently allowed in the stadium. The stadium has a side pitch and an artificial turf pitch .

The local printing company Flyeralarm has been sponsor and namesake since March 2013 . In July 2019, the association and the company agreed on a long-term extension of the naming contract until 2030.

Location and transport links

The facility is located on the western side of the Main in the south-west of Würzburg between the Steinbachtal and Heidingsfeld districts .

The stadium can be reached within a few minutes by car or bus via the A3 exit Würzburg-Heidingsfeld. Around 800 parking spaces are available free of charge directly at the stadium. The stadium can be reached by public transport via tram lines 3 and 5 directly from the main station (Dallenbergbad stop).

history

After it was founded in 1907, FC Würzburger Kickers played bullet trap on the Würzburg Galgenberg, and from 1909 the club was based in Sanderau . The local sports field on Randersackerer Straße had to be abandoned due to urban planning changes. Under the club chairmen Julius Bächer and Josef Metzger, the Würzburger Kickers built a new stadium on the opposite side of the Main on the Dallenberg from the mid-1960s. The architect was Jupp Schunk, and the client was Balthasar Höhn. The construction was financed by grants from the city, the state of Bavaria and the federal government, but above all by donations and work performed by members.

After the main grandstand with 4,000 spectators was built, the stadium was inaugurated on August 15, 1967 with a friendly match against Bundesliga club 1. FC Kaiserslautern . The construction work dragged on for a few years, so the last standing spaces were not completed until 1975.

During the 2006 World Cup , the stadium was the training ground for the Ghana national team . A new lawn was specially laid for this. A test match between Ghana and VfB Stuttgart saw 6000 spectators.

The stadium has officially been named Flyeralarm Arena since March 9, 2013 .

The main grandstand in 2014

On June 23, 2013, the stadium gained nationwide attention in favor of the LitCam organization when the charity game took place between the teams Dirk Nowitzki All Stars and Manuel Neuer  & Friends, made up of celebrities - especially from top German sport . The game was attended by 10,800 spectators in the stadium and was broadcast live on television by the commercial broadcaster Kabel1 .

For the 2016/17 second division season , the stadium had to be expanded and modernized again. A new block Z with a total of 224 seats was built on the main stand, which was only completed one day before the first home game. For this, the roof of the main stand had to be extended. A tubular steel construction was built on the back straight, increasing the number of standing places to 10,100. The VIP tent erected the year before was extended by an upper floor, and turf heating was installed under the playing field and new turf was laid. The work cost around 2 million euros.

In June 2018, the city issued the building permit to expand the stadium. Currently 10,006 visitors are allowed into the arena. The expansion will make 3,084 additional spaces available and increase the total capacity to 13,090. First, however, noise protection measures must be put in place before the new limit applies. The approval process took almost two years, as the association had to change the application again and again, most recently in March 2019 because of noise protection. The approval is associated with a time limit for use. The stadium cannot be used after 10:00 p.m. A league game should therefore start at 7:30 p.m. at the latest. This means that the newly introduced Monday games in the 3rd division can also take place. Cup games would have to start at 6:30 p.m. due to a possible extension.

For the 2020/21 season , the third division promoted Türkgücü Munich reported the stadium as an "unrestricted venue" for its home games.

Furnishing

The stadium has three separate entrances, one on the northern corner and one on the western corner, as well as the guest entrance directly from the parking lot behind the back straight.

The main stand is the only spectator area in the stadium that is completely covered. There are 3000 seats in blocks A to E as well as in block Z. The other grandstands around the playing field only offer standing room and are not covered. Due to the stands on the side of the standing hall and the back straight, which taper slightly towards the outside, the stadium has an octagonal look, which means that there is space in the interior on both sides of the pitch for the coaching zones and reserve benches. Due to this construction, the stands are a few meters further away from the sideline at the center line than near the outer goal lines.

On the north-west side of the field there is a restaurant behind the grandstand, from whose terrace the game can be observed. Since 2014 there has been a VIP area in tent construction, also on the northwest side and adjacent to the restaurant, which is used for catering and looking after the sponsors and guests of honor. The changing rooms, massage rooms and a sauna area with an anti-fatigue pool are located under the restaurant and VIP area.

Approval for the construction of a TV-compatible floodlight system for the main field of the stadium was granted to the club on September 23, 2014 by the city of Würzburg. The system, consisting of four masts with an illuminance of 800 lux , was completed in October 2014, the tallest of the masts is 32 meters high. The side seats of the stadium, one with turf and one with artificial turf, are equipped with floodlights and are used in particular for training purposes and by the perspective teams.
