Stanislav Zvolenský (born November 19, 1958 in Trnava , Czechoslovakia ) is a Slovak bishop , the archbishop of the Archbishopric of Bratislava , the chairman of the Slovak Bishops' Conference and the Grand Chancellor of the Roman Catholic Theological Kyrill and Methodius Faculty of the Komenský University in Bratislava .

Life

Study and Priesthood

Stanislav Zvolenský was born in 1958 in the western Slovak administrative region of Trnavský kraj . After studying theology at the Roman Catholic Theological Cyril and Methodius Faculty of the Komenský University in Bratislava and after preparing for the priesthood in the seminary of St. Cyril and Method in Bratislava, he was appointed on June 13, 1982 by Julius Gábriš , ordained a priest to the Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese of Trnava , in the Martinsdome . He worked as a chaplain in Galanta and Hlohovec . From 1990 to 1992 he was the pastor of the Bratislava-Vajnory district .

In 1992 he began the post-ragual study of theology in Innsbruck . He later studied at the Pontifical Gregorian University , where he obtained a doctorate in canon law in 1998. After returning to Slovakia , he was appointed diocesan judge and assistant professor of the Roman Catholic Theological Cyril and Methodius Faculty of the Komenský University . In 2001 he was appointed Vice Dean of the Roman Catholic Theological Cyril and Methodius Faculty of the Komenský University and on September 27, 2001 he was appointed judicial vicar of the Archdiocese of Bratislava-Trnava .

Auxiliary bishop

Pope John Paul II. Appointed him on 2. April 2004 the auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Bratislava-Trnava and titular bishop of Titularbistums Nova Sinna . He was ordained bishop on May 2nd of the same year in the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Trnava, together with the episcopal ordination of Ján Orosch , also a newly appointed auxiliary bishop of the same archdiocese. The main consecrator was Ján Sokol , the Metropolitan Archbishop of Bratislava-Trnava, and the co-consecrators were Dominik Tóth , Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus of Bratislava-Trnava, and Henryk Józef Nowacki , the Apostolic Nuncio of Slovakia . He has chosen the bishop's mottoFiat voluntas Tua ” - “ Be your will ”.

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on February 14, 2008 (in Slovakia on the solemn feast of St. Cyril and Methodius, the co-patrons of Europe), Archbishop of the newly established Archdiocese of Bratislava and Metropolitan of the Western Church Province with Suffragan Dioceses Trnava , Banská Bystrica , Nitra and Žilina . Bishop Zvolenský was introduced to the office of Cardinal Jozef Tomko , papal legate, on March 8, 2008 . On June 29th, 2008 , on the solemnity of the holy apostles Peter and Paul , Pope Benedict presented him with a pallium, which he has the right to wear in the western ecclesiastical province of Bratislava .
