geography

Stará Huť is located on the upper, still north-flowing Radbuza and filled the valley from the river to the forest on Železný vrch ( Eisenberg , 790 m nm).

It is six kilometers from Muttersdorf , one and a half kilometers from Schwanenbrückl and Waier and two and a half kilometers from the border with Bavaria .

history

Althütten owes its existence to the oldest glassworks in the northern Bohemian Forest . It is said to have been built before 1579. The place consisted of a mill with a board saw and a chaluppe, i. H. a house for the workers. According to tradition, the glassworks stood behind the mill.

Up to 1728 there were only two houses with probably 12 people. In 1784 there were 11 houses with 66, in 1832 34 houses with 278, in 1910 39 houses with 360 and in 1921 49 houses with 390 residents. In 1945 the population was almost 500. Most of the residents owned a small farm and worked as bricklayers, carpenters, forest workers or unskilled workers.

Althütten was parish for the longest time after Muttersdorf. It was not until 1923 that the pastor Johann Jiran succeeded in enforcing the parish to the nearer Waier.

The rare profession of mill builder was practiced in Althütten. This made water wheels and the interior of the mills. The Althüttener mill builders worked for mills along the Radbuza and into the Bavarian region. Other trades were: two mills, the Tschorschenmühle and the Sepplmühle, four shoemakers, a black and white baker, a general store, two inns, the weaver's inn and the Schwormer inn. Althütten was part of Schwanenbrückl .
