history

Opinions on the origin of the Franzbrunnhütte

There are different opinions about the origin of the Franzbrunnhütte. All authors name Franz Abele (also: Franz Aberle) as the founder or new founder of the hut and equate the Franzbrunnhütte with the Abele-Hütte.

Opinion of Josef Bernklau after Johann Micko

These authors and other local history writings assume that a forerunner hut from Franzbrunnhütten was founded in 1696. In this context, the glass servant Hans Christian Nachtmann and the integrator Pomeyer are named for the year 1698. This hut was left open in 1706 or moved to Oberhütten.

Opinion of Friedrich Holl

The author Friedrich Holl emphasizes that the Franzbrunnhütte had no predecessor and was only founded by Franz Abele in 1751.

Documentation in the cards

The Franzbrunnhütte is not shown in the map Kingdom of Bohemia (1764–1767) - Josephinische Landesaufnahme . The Abele hut with 6 buildings is shown. This is located southwest of the Kreuz hut (Creutz hut), 350 m east of the Schwarzach.

The Abele-Hütte is not shown on the map of the Habsburg Monarchy (1869-1887) - Franzisco-Josephinische Landesaufnahme . The Franzbrunnhütte with 5 buildings and a mirror glass factory is shown on the eastern edge of the village. This is located northwest of the Kreuz hut, directly on the western bank of the Schwarzach.

The Franzbrunnhütte from the later map is about 800 m away from the Abele hut from the older map.

Ascent and descent of the Franzbrunnhütte

A lease from the Muttersdorf rulership from 1751 shows that Franz Abele built a new building. Abele had to carry half the burden. He received the timber and firewood free of charge from the lessor. This hut was initially called the Abele hut (Aberlhütte, Awerlhüttn), later it was called the Franzbrunnhütte, although it is not entirely clear that it is really the same hut, s. O.

Franz Abele was born in 1705 on the Leinecksmühle, part of the municipality of Alfdorf . His ancestors, a Protestant miller family, had lived there since 1652. In 1738 Franz Abele worked at Count Desfours ' glassworks in Mischau . In 1705, the leaseholder of this glassworks was the Grafenrieder glass master Johann Thomas Werner. On April 8, 1738, he married Anna Kunigunde, daughter of the kit maker and trader Johann Gottfried Wisender from Plößberg . On May 29, 1751 he signed a lease agreement with Johann Friedrich von Wiedersperg , Lord of Muttersdorf and Neuschwanenbrückl . This lease said: Construction of a new mirror huts with a suitable and usable glass furnace in the forest behind Neydt on the already designated place. Work on the new hut was to begin on April 24, 1753. Franz Abele died on December 1, 1753 and was buried in Plößberg. His widow Kunigunde took over the management of the glassworks, supported by her son-in-law Franz von Rauschenfels. Kunigunde Abele died on July 23, 1768 and was buried in Muttersdorf.

The following glassmakers worked for the Abele family at the Franzbrunnhütte: 1754 Franz Ascherl, 1755 Johann Viola, Mathias Pejerl, 1759 Georg Hopfner from Fichtenbach, 1760 Johann Kopp, Bloberger (gilder), 1764 Christoph Payer, 1766 Christoph Tragl, Michel Lang, Michel Thomas, Wolf Fleissner, 1769 Anton Fux.

From 1763 Johann Baptist Schmaus was the tenant and smelter of the Franzbrunnhütte. Glassmakers at Schmaus were: 1773 Wenzel and son Georg Schödlbauer, 1775 Johann Ascherl, Adam Weber, Johann Euber, 1779 Michel and Thomas Otterlinger from Stubenbach , Michel Wollinger, 1782 Georg Schwingl and 1783 Josef Titz. His son Karl Schmaus took over the Franzbrunnhütte. His widow Maximiliana Schmaus, née von Sutor, signed a lease agreement for the Franzbrunnhütte with the Muttersdorf rulers for the years 1811 to 1815. Due to sales difficulties, she had to give up this lease in 1813.

The tenants Andreas Pöhl from Eisendorf, the glassmaker Georg Ascherl and Simon Bloch from Schwanenbrückl followed from 1813 to 1819. Wolfgang Ziegler held the lease of the Franzbrunnhütte from 1819 to 1844. Naphtali, Salomon and Isaak Bloch, sons of Simon Bloch from Muttersdorf, were tenants from 1846 to 1898. In 1877 the hut burned down completely and was rebuilt by the Bloch brothers. In 1887 they installed a gas heating system and added a 30 m high chimney. The then owner, Count Coudenhove-Kalergi, contributed funds. A lack of wood, high freight and customs costs led to the closure of the Franzbrunnhütte in 1898. A forest nursery was set up in their place.

In 1890 Franzbrunnhütte had 9 houses and 107 inhabitants, in 1921 only 3 houses and 44 inhabitants.

Franzbrunnhütte initially belonged to the parish of Muttersdorf, from 1786 to Waier. The children went to Muttersdorf, later to Waier, Unterhütten, Haselberg and from 1899 to Neid to school.
