Neighboring towns are Karpno in the north, Nowy Gierałtów and Bielice in the southeast, Goszów in the southwest and Stójków in the northwest. On the other side of the border in the Czech Republic are the villages of Zálesí and Nové Vilémovice ( Neu Wilmsdorf ) in the northeast and Hraničky and Nová Véska in the east. To the northeast rises the 766 m high Trojak (triangle), to the south lies the Bielengebirge .

history

Altgersdorf was first mentioned in 1346 as Geraczdorf and belonged to the Karpenstein Castle and Lordship in the Glatzer Land . After the castle was destroyed in 1443, it fell to the Crown of Bohemia as a royal chamber village . During the Reformation the population professed the Lutheran faith. After the re-conquest of the County of Glatz in 1622/1623 by the imperial troops, the residents were re-Catholicized .

After the Silesian Wars , Altgersdorf and the County of Glatz fell to Prussia in 1763 with the Peace of Hubertusburg . After the reorganization of Prussia, Altgersdorf belonged to the province of Silesia from 1815 and was initially incorporated into the district of Glatz . In 1818 it was reorganized into the newly formed district of Habelschwerdt , to which it belonged until 1945. In 1874 the district of Gersdorf was formed, to which the rural communities Altgersdorf, Bielendorf , Gompersdorf , Mühlbach and Neugersdorf belonged. In 1939 there were 662 inhabitants.

As a result of the Second World War , Altgersdorf fell to Poland in 1945, like almost all of Silesia, and was renamed Stary Gierałtów . The German population was expelled. Some of the new residents were displaced from eastern Poland . Many of them left Stary Gierałtów again over the next few decades, leaving numerous houses and farmsteads to decay. In the 1990s, the population was around half of the population of 1939. 1975-1998 Stary Gierałtów belonged to the Wałbrzych Voivodeship ( Waldenburg ).
