The Obermaubach dam in Obermaubach in the municipality of Kreuzau in the Düren district , North Rhine-Westphalia , was built in 1933 and 1934 and serves as a compensation basin for the different strengths of the Rur inflows and controls the most even water discharge possible into the Rur. The reservoir is located both in the area of the municipality of Kreuzau and in the upper area in the area of the municipalities of Hürtgenwald and Nideggen .
The attachment
The design for the dam was provided by the senior construction director Otto Schatz, who later also oversaw the construction management. The barrier structure was designed as an earth dam that seals off the Rur floodplain. At the point where the bed of the Rur was located, a weir system was interposed to control the discharge. The weir system has two fish-belly flaps , each 18 meters long and four meters high , which are moved by means of a rack. The racks are hinged to the upper, lateral end of the fish belly flaps.
The reservoir holds 1.65 million cubic meters of water. The dam is 200 m long (with the weir 239 m) and 6.70 m high. The flooded area is 55.4 hectares. The operator is the Eifel-Rur Water Association (WVER).
In 1969, a hydroelectric power plant with a feed-in capacity of 0.65 MW was built on the dam , which is operated by RWE Innogy .
The waterworks of Stadtwerke Düren for the city of Düren are located below the reservoir . On March 26, 2013, however, the drinking water withdrawal was stopped and at the same time the drinking water withdrawal from the Wehebach dam was set up. However, the waterworks will be retained as a reserve waterworks.
The dam was renovated in 2007/2008. This resulted in costs of 1.8 million euros. In addition, a fish ladder was built for 1.7 million euros . The renovation was declared completed on May 19, 2008.
Use for local recreation
The operator of the dams, the Eifel-Rur water association or the Cologne district government, has issued conditions of use for the use of the waters.
