Stefan Moster
Stefan Moster (born August 16, 1964 in Mainz ) is a German writer and translator .
Life
Moster was a lecturer at universities in Munich and Helsinki. In 1997 he was awarded the Munich Literature Scholarship for Translation. In 2001 the Finnish State Translator Award followed. Among others, he has translated works by Hannu Raittila , Ilkka Remes , Kari Hotakainen , Markku Ropponen , Petri Tamminen and Daniel Katz into German. His translation of Rosa Liksom's novel Kreisland , which is not exclusively written in today's standard Finnish , was expressly praised : parts of the novel are written in the northern Finnish dialect of the author's homeland, others in Old Finnish and still others in the language of the upper class of the first half of the century. In the Neue Zürcher Zeitung, Aldo Keel highlighted Moster's translation work in the context of a review of Moster's transmission of Mikko Rimminen's novel The Day of the Red Nose : “ The author - a poet by nature - is a linguistic virtuoso. And the translator is not inferior to him. Irma hears a “jiggling and jerking” sound when she almost lands her car in deep snow. Näätälä or Mäkilä are the names of the people who populate the high-rise housing estate. Every name a poem. "
In 2009 Moster made his literary debut with the novel "The Impossibility of the Four-Handed Game". Die Welt am Sonntag wrote about the work: “Moster's debut shines with clever world observations and is reminiscent of Joseph Conrad.” In 2011 he published “Lieben sich zwei”. The novel tells of a married couple whose love threatens to break due to their unfulfilled desire to have children. Moster lives with his family in Espoo, Finland . In 2012 Moster took part in the Bachmann Prize competition.
