occupation

Straight Shooter is a German action film directed by Thomas Bohn from 1999 .

action

The daughter of the former Foreign Legionnaire Volker Bretz died of leukemia. Bretz blames the nearby Atar II nuclear power plant . He tries to shut down the system through blackmail. The trained sniper with the battle name Straight Shooter threatens politicians and well-known people in the economy. The German authorities bring the American Frank Hector, who lives in England as a pimp and operator of a nightclub, to Germany to help because Hector was Bretz's trainer and military superior in the Foreign Legion.

criticism

For the film service , the film is “a thriller with suggestive (genre) images that is developed in an exciting way and largely dispenses with a logic of action in favor of atmospheric coherence. The attempt to assign a philosophical "moral" superstructure to the permanent use of violence and counterviolence fails miserably ”.

"Straight Shooter is an uncompromising psycho thriller about a duel between two men who once went through hell together and years later - on different sides of the law - are brought together again."

background

For producer Joseph Vilsmaier this was the first project in which he was “only” involved as a producer. So far he has always worked as a screenwriter and / or director , except for films by his wife Dana Vávrová , for which he also acted exclusively as a producer.

Director Bohn wanted Harvey Keitel to play the role of the American instructor. Keitel was very enthusiastic about the script and would have gladly accepted the role if another interim engagement hadn't prevented him.

The film was shot in Cologne , Düsseldorf and Duisburg .
