Stumptown is an American crime and drama series directed by Jason Richman and starring Cobie Smulders and Jake Johnson . The series is based on the comics of the same name by Greg Rucka and Matthew Southworth. The first broadcast took place in the USA on September 25, 2019 on ABC and in Germany on Sky on May 19, 2020. In May 2020, ABC commissioned a second season.

Dex Parios is a military veteran based in Portland , Oregon . She suffers from post-traumatic disorder from her time as a Marine in Afghanistan , where she worked in military intelligence until she was injured in an explosion that killed her colleague and lover. She has high gambling debts and is unable to keep a job permanently. She becomes a private detective to solve cases in which the police are not involved. Detective Miles Hoffman refers her to such cases. Gray McConnell, bar owner, supports her as a close friend and employs her brother in his bar.

In January 2019, ABC commissioned the pilot and in May 2019 an entire squadron was finally ordered. The premiere took place in the USA on September 25, 2019. In May 2020, the series was extended for a second season.
Cobie Smulders has confirmed that the bisexuality of her character Dex is definitely a goal to be addressed on the show.
The series is set in Portland but will be shot in Los Angeles . The pilot, which was shot primarily in Vancouver , includes a few scenes shot directly in Portland.
The series title Stumptown is a nickname for the city of Portland where the series action takes place.
