Incidents

kidnapping

On the morning of April 8, 2011, at least ten Somali pirates attacked the ship some 35 nautical miles off the coast of Oman . They brought the ship with ten sailors on board, four from Ukraine and six from the Philippines , under their control by force of arms. The Susan K , which chartered for the Danish company AC Ørssleff Chartering, was en route from Mumbai to Port Sudan .

The frigate Niedersachsen was removed in the pirate attack 100 nautical miles from the attack position and received in the early morning the contract for emergency aid. The on-board helicopter of the frigate found at a flyover that pirates brought the ship under their control and the crew were taken hostage. The frigate chased the ship towards the Somali coast. The ship from which the German freighter was attacked could be searched, but there were no more pirates on board.

In June, the Susan K was released after paying a ransom. According to media reports, about $ 2.8 million ransom should have been paid.

In August 2014, a Somali asylum seeker was arrested in Eisleben , who allegedly participated in the hijacking of the ship. As part of his asylum application, fingerprints were taken from him that matched the fingerprints saved on board after the ship was released. Another asylum seeker, who is accused of being involved in the hijacking of the cargo ship Susan K , was arrested in an asylum seekers' home in Reutlingen in early August 2015 .

Oil pollution

In early November 2012, the shipowner was fined $ 1.2 million in the United States after the ship allegedly dumped bilge water containing oil in US waters between August 2011 and March 2012 . The ruling by a federal court in Houston also included a ban on calling into US ports for all ships of the shipping company Nimmrich & Prahm.
