Systematics of minerals according to Dana / silicates
The silicates in the classification of minerals according to Dana comprise class VIII of this classification, they are the largest group in it.
According to the new Dana classification, the class of silicates is divided according to the structure of the minerals:
- Island silicates : Subclasses 51 (island silicates only with SiO 4 groups), 52 (island silicates with SiO 4 groups and O, OH, F and H 2 O), 53 (island silicates with SiO 4 groups and other anions of complex cations) and 54 (Borosilicates and some beryllosilicates with (BO 3 ))
- Group silicates : Subclasses 55 (Si 2 O 7 groups, generally without additional anions), 56 (Si 2 O 7 groups and O, OH, F and H 2 O), 57 (insular (Si 3 O 10 ) and larger non-cyclic ones Groups with Si 3 O 10 groups) and 58 (insular, mixed, single and larger tetrahedral groups)
- Ring silicates : Subclasses 59 (rings of three), 60 (rings of four), 61 (rings of six), 62 (rings of eight), 63 (condensed rings) and 64 (rings with other anions and insular silicate groups)
- Chain silicates : Subclasses 65 (single unbranched chains), 66 (double unbranched chains), 67 (unbranched chains), 68 (structures with chains of different widths), 69 (chains with side branches or loops) and 70 (columnar or tube structures)
- Layered silicates : Subclasses 71 (layers of six-membered rings), 72 (two-dimensional unlimited layers with other than six-membered rings), 73 (layered silicates with condensed tetrahedral layers) and 74 (layered silicates with modulated layers)
- Framework silicates : subclasses 75 (tetrahedral Si lattice), 76 (Al-Si lattice) and 77 (zeolite group).
The unclassified silicates form subclass 78.
