history
The volleyball department of TSV Giesen was founded in 1981. In the first ten years, the team rose from the district class to the league. In 1997 she reached the regional league and four years later the second division. Before the 2007/08 season, the Giesener volleyball players were united with the players of the former competitor MTV 1848 Hildesheim. The new team reached first place in the northern season and thus qualified for the first division.
Since the 2016/17 season, the volleyball department of TSV Giesen has been known as TSV Giesen Grizzlys. Giesen has been playing in the 1st Bundesliga again since the 2018/19 season.
Bundesliga
TSV Giesen / Hildesheim became champions of the 2nd Bundesliga North in 2008 and played in the Bundesliga for the first time in the 2008/09 season , but rose from bottom of the table again. In the 2010/11 season , the club was undefeated champion in the 2nd Bundesliga North, but waived promotion.
Shortly before the promotion in the following season, the coach Michael Schöps surprisingly announced his resignation for private reasons, whereupon the club renounced the 1st Bundesliga for the second time for financial reasons. Giesen finished the 2017/2018 season in third place in the table. After the champions VC Mitteldeutschland waived their promotion and the second VCO Berlin started out of competition, third place was enough for promotion to the 1st Bundesliga. For the third time, the club exercised its right of promotion and will serve again in the volleyball upper house after ten years in the 2018/19 season.
DVV Cup
The Giesener took part in the main round of the DVV Cup for the first time in the 2008/09 season and were eliminated in the quarter-finals against the German champions VfB Friedrichshafen .
