The Tannberg is 786  m above sea level. A. high elevation on the border between Salzburg and Upper Austria .

geography

The Tannberg lies east of the Mattsee , it stretches as far as Straßwalchen . The municipality of Lochen am See is located on the Upper Austrian side , Schleedorf and Köstendorf are on the southern side of Salzburg .

The mountain belongs to the flysch zone of the Northern Alps , the northernmost foothills of which it represents here. Since it is located north of the Wallersee - Straßwalchen - Vöcklatal line , the orographic northern border of the Alps, it is usually no longer included in the Alps themselves, but in the foothills of the Alps : to the west is the Salzburg Lake District , to the northwest the Südinnviertel Lake District , to the north and east the Mattigtal and to the east behind it the Hausruck – Kobernaußerwald-Zug , all landscapes of extra-alpine character ( subalpine molasse zone , i.e. mainly solidified sand and gravel as alpine erosion mass). The Tannberg was freed from the bulk of the Alps by the tongues of the Salzach Glacier and the Dachstein Glacier , which carved out the Salzburg Lake District and the Salzkammergut Lakes, respectively, and which met here during the strongest icing. But it is not a marginal moraine , but massive bedrock.

The Tannberg is a popular destination in Flachgau . The panoramic view extends over the Salzburg Lake District to the Northern Limestone Alps , to the north as far as the Innviertel . The mountain backdrop extends in the east from the Traunstein over the striking peaks of the Schafberg , the Dachstein , Tennen- and Hagengebirge , Untersberg to Staufen and Zwiesel .

Development

There is an inn near the summit, which can be reached by car from Köstendorf on a cul-de-sac.
