The Cormorant War is a television film from the crime series Tatort . The film with Eva Mattes as chief detective Klara Blum was produced by SWR and Maran Film and first broadcast in Germany on January 6, 2008. This 686th episode in the crime scene series is the 13th case of Klara Blum and the 9th case of Kai Perlmann .

The investigators have to solve the murder of an environmental activist and get caught in a "war" between conservationists and the fishermen from Lake Constance. However, the man killed fell victim to an act of jealousy.

action

Against the background of the local elections in Constance, fires are occurring repeatedly in the nature reserves, which are presumably started by the fishermen and which are directed against the constantly growing cormorant populations. Conservationist Conrad Ketteler repeatedly messes with the fishermen and one day is found dead in Lake Constance . The coroner finds out that he was hit on the back of the head with a blunt object and that he drowned afterwards.

The investigations by Klara Blum and Kai Perlmann are initially directed against the fishermen. Primarily Erwin Gasser appears suspicious, as he had a massive argument with him shortly before Ketteler's death. When Gasser is questioned, contradictions arise and he is arrested.

Nevertheless, the inspectors continue to investigate and find out that Conrad Ketteler and his colleague Heike Beek had a daughter and also had a relationship with Almut, the wife of the vegetable farmer Thomas Weiß. She planned to emigrate with him to New Zealand, which he refused in the end and they had argued about it.

But more striking is the role of local politician Günter Balried, who tries to mediate between fishermen and environmentalists and has ambitions to move into the state parliament as a member of parliament. He also owes a debt to Gasser, as he had helped cause the daughter's death in the past. Blum also finds out that Ketteler had carried out a large number of water analyzes and was thus able to prove illegal activities by fishermen. The secretly made video recordings also show that Balried helped.

The investigators unexpectedly receive a reference to Thomas Weiss. Although he allegedly does not want to have known about his wife's relationship, Blum and Perlmann can prove him wrong. When they drive to his courtyard to arrest him, he runs away. After a chase, White can be arrested unharmed.

Reviews

“Der Wahlberliner” rated the crime scene as: “Solid. No significant plot weaknesses, no implausible motives. Not everything should have been filmed the way it was done here, but it's okay. ”“ The investigators are doing a good job, not spectacular, overall a perfect case. ”

The critics of the TV magazine TV Spielfilm judge cautiously: "One of those Lake Constance thrillers that somehow got the powder wet: The tension dramaturgy stutters, the resolution doesn't ignite." Conclusion: "Not stupid, but unfortunately also not gripping."

Kino.de sees a similar view , where it is said that this crime scene "would have done a little more oomph."
