Tetjana Jurijiwna Melnyk ( Ukrainian Тетяна Юріївна Мельник , English transcription Tetyana Melnyk; born April 2, 1995 in Oleksandrivka ) is a Ukrainian sprinter who specializes in the 400-meter run .

Athletic career

For the first time at an international championship Tetjana Melnyk took part in the Junior World Championships over 400-meter hurdles and made it to the semifinals, in which she was eliminated with 59.37 s. Two years later she took part in the Ukrainian 4 x 400 meter relay at the European Championships in Amsterdam , where she finished sixth in 3: 27.64 minutes. The relay qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where they finished fifth in 3: 26.64 minutes in the final . In 2017, she won the bronze medal with the relay at the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade in 3: 32.10 minutes and retired in the first round of the 400-meter run with 55.18 seconds. At the U23 European Championships in Bydgoszcz , Poland , she also won the bronze medal with the Ukrainian relay in 3: 30.22 minutes. This secured her starting place for the World Championships in London , in which the season was eliminated with 3: 31.84 min in the preliminary round. Two weeks later, she participated in the Summer Universiade in Taipei , where she was disqualified with the relay in the final.

In 2018 she reached fourth place with the relay in 3: 31.32 min at the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham . She took part in the European Championships in Berlin over 400 meters and was eliminated there with 52.20 seconds in the semifinals. In addition, she was disqualified in the preliminary run with the Ukrainian relay. The following year she retired at the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow with 53.39 s in the first round and at the World Relays in Yokohama she was disqualified with the 4 x 400 meter relay in the run-up. In July she was fourth in the Student World Games in Naples in 52.02 s and won the season in 3: 30.82 min. Before that, she won the European Games in Minsk with the mixed relay in 3: 16.65 minutes.

In 2018 Melnyk was Ukrainian champion in the 400-meter indoor and outdoor run and again in the indoor arena in 2019.
