One year outlawed! (Original title: The Big Year ) is an American comedy film directed by David Frankel from 2011. Steve Martin , Jack Black and Owen Wilson can be seen in the leading roles . The film is based on the novel The Big Year: A Tale of Man, Nature and Fowl Obsession by Mark Obmascik. The film opened in German cinemas on June 14, 2012.

The programmer Brad Harris and the extremely wealthy industrialist Stu Preissler fulfill a lifelong dream against the resistance of their immediate environment. You want to have a "Big Year" and observe as many different species of birds as possible in the United States within a year . Kenny Bostick holds the record from 2003 with 732 different species. However, he fears that after " El Niño " his record could be broken and, despite the great concerns of his wife Jessica, is also going on a "Big Year". Brad and Stu get to know and become friends during a boat trip. Brad tells Stu that he is on a Big Year, but Stu hides his goals from Brad. The experienced loner Kenny immediately recognizes the intentions of his two opponents and torpedoed their further projects where possible. Stu missed the trip to Attu , the most westerly island of the Aleutians , because of an urgent business appointment , which is important for bird watchers . Brad meets Elli on Attu and becomes friends with her. Brad has since found out that Stu is also on a "Big Year". When Stu arrives late at Attu, there is a brief argument between the two. After that, however, they decide to tackle Kenny together and challenge him for the record. When a colleague of Kenny sees a snowy owl in Buffalo , a bird Kenny has always missed on the list, Kenny cancels an important appointment with the gynecologist, where Jessica was preparing for an artificial insemination . When Kenny returns, she informs him that she wants a divorce. Brad's broken relationship with his father with heart disease improves when they both find a great gray owl while exploring their native George Washington National Park . Brad climbs his number to 734 after he and Stu take Annie Auklet's ship on Thanksgiving after a storm. Kenny had treated Annie rudely several times in the past and Annie wanted to take revenge on Kenny with the extra trip. At the end of the year, Kenny made the running with 755 sightings, but lost Jessica. Brad comes in second, but feels like the winner because he's been with Elli since New Year's Eve. Kenny travels to China to continue bird watching. From now on, Stu dedicates himself entirely to the family.

“What sounds like high-quality fun about life, the universe and everything else, unfortunately quickly turns out to be silly slapstick of the typically American kind. Director David Frankel (“ The Devil Wears Prada ”) should have given it more depth. At least the wonderful locations and the actors are convincing. "
