action
Rivals Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse try to win the race for a marketable and sustainable electricity system in the 1880s. Edison defended the use of direct current in power distribution. Westinghouse Electric, on the other hand, is trying to implement alternating current and is supported in this by a large number of European companies. At the World's Fair in Chicago in 1893 , Edison and Westinghouse appeared as competitors in the battle for their nocturnal lighting.

Film title and historical background
The film title The Current War refers to the English-language terms Alternating Current and Direct Current for alternating current and direct current . Thomas Edison had defended direct current, while George Westinghouse preferred alternating current. For months, Edison touted his DC power plants while spreading the word about the dangerous AC power Westinghouse was selling to people. Engineers hired by Edison demonstrated the danger in public deterrent experiments like the one at Columbia College in New York.
