Thea Noeliva LaFond (born April 5, 1994 on Roseau ) is a Dominican high and triple jumper who is also a national record holder in other disciplines.

Athletic career

Thea LaFond gained her first international experience at the CARIFTA Games 2011 in Montego Bay , where she won the silver medal with 1.75 m in the high jump and the bronze medal with 12.30 m in the triple jump. Then she was eliminated from the qualification in both competitions at the World Youth Championships near Lille . In 2012 she won the silver medal at the Central American and Caribbean Junior Championships (CAC) in San Salvador with 12.94 m and then retired at the Junior World Championships in Barcelona with 12.66 m in the first round. In 2013 she won the bronze medal in both disciplines at the CARIFTA Games in Nassau with 1.80 m and 12.68 m. At the Pan American Junior Championships in Medellín she also won the bronze medal in the high jump with a jump of 1.76 m, while she had to be satisfied with seventh place in the triple jump with 12.57 m.

In 2014 she took part in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow for the first time, was 11th in the triple jump with 12.64 m and also made it into the final in the high jump, in which she could not cross the starting height. In 2015 she was at the Pan American Games in Toronto 13th with 1.80 m and twelfth in the triple jump with 13.35 m. Then she came in the NACAC championships in San José with 13.60 m in sixth place, as well as with 1.76 m in the high jump. In 2016 she qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where she did not reach the final with 12.82 m . The following year she took part in the World Championships in London , where she was eliminated from the qualification with a width of 13.82 m . At the 2018 World Indoor Championships in Birmingham she was 17th with a jump of 13.68 m. She then took part again in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast and surprisingly won the bronze medal there with 13.92 m behind the two Jamaicans Kimberly Williams and Shanieka Ricketts . At the Central America and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla she was 11th with 13.02 m and at the NACAC Championships in Toronto she also won the bronze medal with 13.74 m.

In 2019, LaFond finished eighth at the Pan American Games in Lima with 13.70 m and also qualified for the World Championships in Doha , where she did not start spontaneously.

LaFond graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with a degree in communications and media .
