Thomas Frick (born August 7, 1962 in Rostock ) is a German author and director .

Life

Thomas Frick began his artistic work in the 1980s as a cartoonist , songwriter and underground filmmaker . He organized underground film festivals and a film club in his hometown of Greifswald . After arrests, house searches and the confiscation of his film works and writings by the Ministry for State Security , Frick made contact with prominent artists in the GDR and Hungary. Above all, it was thanks to his Super 8 films and the mediation by DEFA director Heiner Carow that Frick was accepted as a trainee in 1987 at the DEFA Studio for Feature Films in Potsdam-Babelsberg .

Frick completed his training as a director from 1988 to 1996 at the HFF Konrad Wolf film school in Babelsberg under the mentorship of DEFA director Claus Dobberke . During this time he made several award-winning documentaries and short films , such as 10 days in October and vaudeville . He shot his award-winning diploma film The Unknown Deserter in 1994 as a co-production with the University of California in Los Angeles , also with Karoline Eichhorn , Udo Kier and Ralf Möller . The American mentor of the project was the well-known director Roland Emmerich .

After finishing film school, Frick worked as a director and writer for television ( Gute Zeiten - Schlechte Zeiten , Alpha Team , Gott und die Welt ), as a music clip maker and commercial film maker ( Clueso , Acoustica , Sony , Danone , Mc Paper, Red Cross, Telekom, Ferrero ) and as an event director (Prix Europa) and thus enabled his free work on his own short films ( Emmerich , Grünes Licht , Dangerous animal ).

In 1998 Frick founded "Thomas Frick Filmproduktion" and in 2001 he took over the direction of the adventure film Detective Lovelorn and the Revenge of the Pharaoh , in which Mišel Matičević , Eva Hassmann , Reiner Schöne and Horst Buchholz can be seen in his last leading role.

For many years, Frick has been actively involved in numerous charitable projects - mostly film or script projects with young people such as Courage Show - Overcoming Foreignness , Courageous Pictures , youth thinks um.welt / Youthinkgreen , Sukuma .

Frick teaches scriptwriting , advertising dramaturgy and directing in various places and institutions, in countries such as Iceland, Croatia, Belarus, Poland, France, Italy, Bulgaria, Turkey, India, China, Egypt, Brazil, Peru, Namibia and Chile. Travels as a filmmaker and photographer led him a. a. in the USA, Tunisia, Morocco, Ukraine, North Korea, Maldives, the United Arab Emirates and Iran. He was a speaker at the Saxon Media Academy and at the TÜV Rheinland School in Dresden.

Thomas Frick has been active as a literary author since 2015. He published short stories and travel stories as a self-publisher, won prizes, was included in anthologies and attended writing seminars with Sebastian Fitzek, Andreas Eschbach, Klaus N. Frick, Uwe Anton, Michael Markus Thurner, Leo Lukas, Kathrin Lange, Ursula Poznansiki, Andreas Gruber and others . He wrote for Perry Rhodan / STELLARIS and is a member of the board of the Brandenburg Literature College.
