Thomas Herbst (born October 5, 1962 in Berlin ) is a German soccer coach and former soccer player .
Career as a player
societies
As a 19-year-old, Herbst was a member of the Bundesliga team FC Bayern Munich in the 1981/82 season . He played his only two games on May 21 and 29, 1982 (33rd / 34th matchday) - total playing time: 35 minutes - in a 3-2 home win over Arminia Bielefeld (from the 61st minute for Karl Del'Haye ) and in the 1: 3 defeat at VfL Bochum (from the 84th minute for Dieter Hoeneß ).
In the following season - now eligible to play for Eintracht Braunschweig - he made 17 appearances and scored three goals. On March 22, 1983 (24th matchday), his team scored a 3-3 draw at FC Schalke 04 , where he contributed two goals.
From 1983 to 1988 - interrupted by the one-year interlude at SV Darmstadt 98 in the 2nd Bundesliga 1986/87 - he played 65 times for Borussia Mönchengladbach . For Borussia , Herbst also played six times in the DFB and nine times in the UEFA Cup ; He scored three goals in international competition.
From 1995 to 1999 he was with Hertha Zehlendorf . Initially active as a player until 1997, he switched to the coaching bench of the regional league team in the 1997/98 season - and was relegated to the top division with him. National team
Not yet 17 years old, Herbst made his debut on May 9, 1979 in Trossingen in the 1-0 victory of the B1 junior team (U16) over Switzerland. At the 5th Nordland tournament in Sweden he played again for this selection on August 8 and 9, 1979 (1-0 against Finland and 2-2 against Norway). From September 4, 1980 (3: 5 against Hungary; in Poreč) to June 3, 1981 (1: 0 against Poland; in Dusseldorf), he played 16 games for the A-Juniors selection (U18) , scoring eight goals an excellent goal rate and was crowned junior European champion in his last game in this national team. At the Junior World Cup in Sydney, which was held for the third time in 1981 , he played all six games from October 3 to 18 and won the junior title in the final game in the U19 national team , the final (4-0 against Qatar) World champion. For the U21 national team , he played six games; for the first time on March 29, 1983 in Shkodra in the 1-1 draw against Albania as part of the European Championship qualification. He scored his two international goals on April 26 and June 10, respectively, in a 1-1 draw with Austria and a 2-2 draw with Brazil. He played his last game in the national jersey on June 12, 1983 in Toulon in a goalless draw against France .
Career as a coach
After his first coaching activities at Hertha 03 Zehlendorf , Türkiyemspor Berlin and Berlin Ankaraspor Kulübü 07 , from 2008 to 2010 tennis was supervised by Borussia Berlin . From 2010 to 2013 he coached the team of the two-time German champions BFC Viktoria 1889 , with whom he became Berlin champions in the first year and was promoted to the fifth-class Oberliga Nordost . At the end of the 2012/13 season he led the team to the championship and thus to promotion to the Regionalliga Nordost . The 2013/14 season he looked after the team under the - due to the merger - name FC Viktoria 1889 Berlin and finished eighth. Furthermore, he and the team won the Berlin State Cup on June 4, 2015 with a 2-1 win over Tasmania Berlin . A lack of success in the following season led to the immediate release of his coaching activity on November 6, 2014. For the 2017/18 season he returned to FC Viktoria 1889 Berlin and received a contract valid until June 30, 2018.
