Career as a player

As a 19-year-old, Herbst was a member of the Bundesliga team FC Bayern Munich in the 1981/82 season . He played his only two games on May 21 and 29, 1982 (33rd / 34th matchday) - total playing time: 35 minutes - in a 3-2 home win over Arminia Bielefeld (from the 61st minute for Karl Del'Haye ) and in the 1: 3 defeat at VfL Bochum (from the 84th minute for Dieter Hoeneß ).

Career as a coach

After his first coaching activities at Hertha 03 Zehlendorf , Türkiyemspor Berlin and Berlin Ankaraspor Kulübü 07 , from 2008 to 2010 tennis was supervised by Borussia Berlin . From 2010 to 2013 he coached the team of the two-time German champions BFC Viktoria 1889 , with whom he became Berlin champions in the first year and was promoted to the fifth-class Oberliga Nordost . At the end of the 2012/13 season he led the team to the championship and thus to promotion to the Regionalliga Nordost . The 2013/14 season he looked after the team under the - due to the merger - name FC Viktoria 1889 Berlin and finished eighth.
