Thomas Stratos (born October 9, 1966 ) is a German soccer coach and former professional soccer player.
Career
Player career
Via SC Bad Salzuflen , SuS Lage and FC Gütersloh , Stratos came to the then top division Arminia Bielefeld in 1988 . After the missed promotion in 1990, he first moved to Hamburger SV , two years later to the second division club 1. FC Saarbrücken .
In 1994 he returned to Bielefeld and, together with players such as Armin Eck , Fritz Walter , Thomas von Heesen and Jörg Bode , played an important part in the march through East Westphalia from the regional league to the upper house of football. From 2000 to the end of his career in 2002 he played again for 1. FC Saarbrücken.
Thomas Stratos scored eight goals in a total of 129 Bundesliga games. He also scored three goals in 100 second division games. He is a member of Arminia Bielefeld's eleven of the century , who were elected in 2005 via an internet vote.
Coaching career
From 2006 to 2007 Stratos was a coach at the upper division FC Gütersloh 2000 . After August 2, 2007, he took on the role of coach at the upper division Hammer SpVg until the end of the 2008 season. From 2008 to 2012 he was a coach at SC Wiedenbrück 2000 , with whom he won the championship of the Westfalenliga 1 in the first year . In the following season 2009/10 Stratos was with this team in the NRW League table first, which meant promotion to the Regionalliga West.
In June 2013 he took over the post of head coach at second division relegated SSV Jahn Regensburg . With Regensburg he managed to stay in the 3rd division early 2013/2014. However, Stratos did not receive a new contract for the 2014/2015 season despite having achieved sporting goals and thus left the club on June 30, 2014.
In November 2014, Stratos took over as head coach of the Berlin regional division and former European Cup participant BFC Dynamo . With the Berliners he won the Berlin Cup on May 20, 2015 in front of 6,914 spectators with a 1-0 win against Tasmania Berlin , which qualified the team for the DFB Cup .
In October 2016 Stratos was interim assistant coach under Ioannis Amanatidis at Iraklis Thessaloniki for 11 days , before he worked as assistant coach of the Greek national football team for two years under Michael Skibbe from November 2016 .
For the 2019/20 season , Stratos returned to the Regionalliga West as the new coach of SC Fortuna Köln . The collaboration ended at the beginning of May 2020. Fortuna Köln finished the 2019/20 season , which was canceled shortly afterwards due to the Corona crisis, in 10th place.
