Toto & Harry are the protagonists of the Sat.1 report series "24 hours Toto & Harry - the two from the police station" . In the aftermath, a camera team accompanies the two police officers on patrol duty in Bochum .

Career

Police Chief Superintendent Torsten "Toto" Heim (born February 24, 1963 in Hilden ) and Police Chief Inspector Thomas "Harry" wine purchase (* June 24, 1965 in Bochum ), after their training in Cologne (Toto) and Dusseldorf ins (Harry) Ruhr added and met there as partners on patrol duty. You have been patrolling downtown Bochum since 1992.

The two were discovered by television in 2001, when the television broadcaster Sat.1 asked Bochum police chief Thomas Wenner about shooting the reportage series 24 hours . The program aired on August 27, 2001. The first episode of the series followed on January 14, 2002. Here they take on typical problems of the police patrol service, such as disputes between neighbors or the situation of children who have run away from their parents' home.

Home and Wine Buying were subsequently invited by Harald Schmidt , Johannes B. Kerner and Markus Lanz in their programs. A complete season was filmed from October 2005 and broadcast from May 2006 with the permission of the Bochum police chief.

Following the success of The Police Station Two , Toto and Harry returned to the screen in the spring of 2014. In the six-part Kabel 1 documentary Die Kultcops Abroad , the Bochum police officers accompanied their colleagues around the world. Destinations included Florida / USA , Brazil , Asia and Southern Europe . In 2015 a second season was broadcast, for this Toto and Harry were among others in Texas / USA , Alaska , Australia and Thailand .

In September 2016, media reported that the duo had officially split up. Weinkauf told the WAZ that Toto and Harry “definitely have nothing to do with each other” except for their job. They would have been “good colleagues”, but “never friends in private, even if it came across on the screen.” Heim, on the other hand, told the Rheinische Post that he had some things in their friendship “remembered a little differently” and pointed to them that there are health reasons without giving concrete information.

While Weinkauf has withdrawn from the public eye, Heim goes on a comedy tour together with Horst Freckmann as "Hotte & Toto". Home and Weinkauf are still on duty as police officers in different guards in Bochum.

In 2017 Torsten "Toto" Heim played in Der Blaulicht Report (a pseudo-docu-soap format from RTL ).

criticism

In April 2014, the WAZ reported internal criticism of the two officials. According to this, the then police chief Diana Ewert is said to have had “considerable reservations about the duo's media presence”. Home and Weinkauf had not been on patrol together for years, Heim had been transferred from the main guard to the south-east guard. Both may only appear in service uniform with express permission.

In September 2015, the member of the state parliament Peter Biesenbach (CDU) made a small inquiry in which he asked the NRW state government, among other things, how it assesses "that North Rhine-Westphalian police chief inspectors abroad in Bermuda go on buffalo patrol and alligator hunting with pistol drawn" . Biesenbach was referring to Die Kultcops abroad , which were broadcast in a second season at the same time. Ewert's criticism was also taken up in the request. The Bochum police headquarters replied that the filming was made while the officials were on vacation and that it had been previously registered as an artistic secondary activity . Pistols can only be seen on the advertising posters; abroad, Heim und Weinkauf do not wear weapons or uniforms.

After Heim publicly commented on foreigner crime in May 2019, there was an official investigation that ended with a warning.

Other media presence

In a joint book from 2004, the police officers also report on experiences that were not shown on television. The book deals with personal matters, such as the first confrontation with dead people or the way to the police service, as well as everyday police work, such as the enormous number of reports that your district has to process annually, the atmosphere of the changing rooms, uniforms that you have to pay for yourself and protective vests . In 2009 they published another book called Am I To Blame Now? in which they describe misunderstandings with the police using real cases.

Toto and Harry took part in various celebrity betting formats such as Celebrity Don't Be Annoyed or Sportfreunde Pocher . In 2014 and 2015, Toto and Harry took part in the TV total Stock Car Crash Challenge .

In 2013 they appeared in the ZDF crime series Heldt (Season 1, Episode 3: Death in the Neighborhood ), where they had a brief guest appearance as Toto and Harry at the beginning of the episode.

In 2017, Toto was Torsten Heinemann, the protagonist of the pseudo-documentary Der Blaulicht Report , on RTL .

In the movie Macho Man 2 , which appeared in 2017, Heim made a cameo as an investigator for the Nuremberg police.

Trivia

When Torsten Heim came to the police in 1981, he played football in the official selection. Because he had a robust style of play that reminded the coach of the Italian Salvatore "Toto" Schillaci , a friend gave him the nickname "Toto". Thomas Weinkauf got his nickname from Harry Wijnvoord .

Since 2006, Toto and Harry have been ambassadors for the Central Germany Children's Hospice , which they moved into in 2011 in Tambach-Dietharz . After Harry has withdrawn from the public, Toto is still active as a volunteer ambassador.
