Tiger Hai (also Tiger Shark , original title: Tiger Shark ) is an American drama directed by Howard Hawks from 1932 with Edward G. Robinson in the leading role. The script is based on Tuna by Houston Branch.

Mike Mascarenhas is a native of Portugal and lives in San Diego. He is a fisherman and mainly hunts tuna. When fishing, his cutter gets into distress. Mike and his crew have to leave the ship. A shark attacks Mike and bites off his hand. The following year, a crew member, Manuel Silva, goes overboard and is killed by the sharks that follow the cutter. Mike brings the news of Manuel's death to his daughter Quita. The beautiful Quita is now alone. Mike, who was previously unrelated to women, takes care of the young woman and provides her with money and food.
Mike proposes marriage to Quita. Quita doesn't love Mike, but Mike doesn't care, he accepts her for who she is. Mike's generosity touches Quita, who agrees to the wedding. However, Quita falls in love with Pipes Boley, Mike's boatswain. Pipe is about to leave town when he learns of Quita's feelings for him. However, he is seriously injured by a fishing hook while doing his job. Mike brings him to his house to relax. Quita takes care of Pipe and their love for each other deepens.
When Pipe is healthy again, Quita accompanies him and her husband on a fishing trip. Overcome by her feelings, she hugs Pipe, even though Mike is there. Mike gets angry, knocks Pipe down and puts him in a leaky dinghy. Mike watches the sharks circling the boat. His foot gets into the tether and he is pulled overboard. The sharks attack him, his men pull him and Pipe back on board. Badly injured Mike asks Pipe and Quita for forgiveness and dies.

The film was shot in Hawaii , San Diego and Monterey . Orry-Kelly was responsible for the costumes , the musical director was Leo F. Forbstein .
The film premiered on September 22, 1932 in the United States. In Germany it first appeared on September 30, 1968 in the ARD program.
Reviews
Variety described the film at the time as tight and extraordinarily well played and staged. Mordaunt Hall from the New York Times particularly praised lead actor Robinson, who played the fisherman brilliantly. Arlen, Johann and Ricciardi would also have played their roles well. Channel 4 highlighted the film as one of the director's best early works. The TimeOut film guide described the film as a small but highly entertaining adventure.
