Tita Carloni

Giovanni Battista (Tita) Carloni (born June 24, 1931 in Rovio ; † November 24, 2012 in Mendrisio ) was a Swiss architect , professor of architecture and politician from the canton of Ticino .

Career

Tita Carloni studied architecture at the ETH Zurich as the son of Taddeo Carloni, teacher at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Lugano , and Elvezia Piffaretti, who grew up in Rovio in the Lugano district . His first marriage was to Ilse Ruetsch and his second marriage to Luigia Cairoli.

Carloni worked with the Ticino architects Rino Tami , Peppo Brivio , Luigi Snozzi , Livio Vacchini and Mario Botta . From 1956 he ran an architecture office in Lugano together with Luigi Camenisch. With Max Bill he realized the Art de vivre - Joie de vivre sector at the Swiss national exhibition Expo 64 in Lausanne . From 1968 to 1991 he taught at the University of Geneva .

From 1960 to 1967 he was a member of the Federal Commission for Monument Preservation (EKD) and from 1988 to 1989 of the Federal Art Commission (EKK).

From 1971 to 1978 he represented the Partito Socialista Autonomo (PSA) in the Grand Council of the Canton of Ticino .
