The defender , who played during his active career in Sweden and Norway, was both Swedish champions and cup winners with Kalmar FF . In total, he played 17 seasons for the club and played almost 300 league games.

Career

Carlsson started playing football at Färjestadens GoIF before moving to Kalmar FF in 1993. In the following years he experienced ups and downs with the club. In 1996, the team was relegated to the third division , but was able to march through to the Allsvenskan after direct promotion. There the relegation and in the following season the promotion was missed.

Carlsson left after the end of the 2000 season Kalmar FF and the Superettan . The new employer was the Norwegian club Molde FK . In the Tippeligaen he became a regular player over long stretches of the season and made 23 premier league appearances in his debut season. After the team had been strengthened in the following season with players like his compatriots Eddie Gustafsson and Magnus Kihlberg , the runner-up behind Rosenborg BK and thus qualification for the UEFA Cup . In the 2003/04 competition he was used in the team's first four games after they prevailed against KÍ Klaksvík in the qualifying round and met UD Leiria in the first main round .

In the 2004 season Carlsson returned to Sweden to his first professional station Kalmar FF. Here he established himself as a regular player and only had to suspend several games because he was sent off. In the following years he was also part of the permanent staff in the four-chain run by trainer Nanne Bergstrand . In 2007 he reached the final of the national cup with the team , in which he prevented the final opponent IFK Göteborg from scoring goals at the side of Arthur Sorin , Patrik Rosengren and Mikael Eklund and thus contributed to the 3-0 victory over the champions.

In the following years, Carlsson first moved into the second tier. In the 2008 season , at the end of which he won the Lennart Johansson Cup as a Swedish champion with the club for the first time in club history , he played 18 league games and eleven season games the following year. He then returned to the regular formation of coach Nanne Bergstrand and did not miss a minute of the game in the 2011 season . While the team was hardly able to build on the great success in the league, they moved into the cup final in the same year. There he was on the side of Petter Wastå , Henrik Rydström , Erik Israelsson and Daniel Mendes the master Helsingborgs IF with a 1: 3 defeat.

Due to injury, Carlsson did not play in the first half of the 2012 season . He then announced the end of his playing career at the end of July that year.
