Tom Smith (born August 15, 1920 in Great Britain ; † April 3, 2009 in Great Britain) was a British make- up artist who was nominated once for the Oscar , the Saturn Award and the British Academy Film Award (BAFTA Award) for best makeup was.

Life

Smith began his career as a makeup artist in the film industry in 1950 at The double College (The Happiest Days of Your Life) by Frank Launder with Alastair Sim , Margaret Rutherford and Guy Middleton . In the course of his career, which lasted until 1988, he was involved in the production of 56 films, in particular in numerous horror films for the film production company Hammer .

At the 1983 Academy Awards , Smith was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Make-up for the biography Gandhi (1982) by Richard Attenborough starring Ben Kingsley as Mahatma Gandhi , Candice Bergen as Margaret Bourke-White and Edward Fox in the role of General Reginald Dyer . At the same time he was nominated for the British Academy Film Award for the best mask in 1983 for this film .

In 1985 Smith was co-starred with Gary Liddiard of the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films for Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, 1984) by Steven Spielberg with Harrison Ford , Kate Capshaw and Amrish Puri for nominated for the Saturn Award for the best make-up .
